Hey lads, lads!

Some bloke was talking about my 300, he used to have one. He reckoned it was a good idea to pour some (maybe half a pint?) of clean oil down into each sill as this would stop corrosion.

He reckoned there was a good place you could get access just by the rear seat if you pulled the trim back a bit.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? Anyone done it?

Thanks in advance!

Chuck a couple of eggs an bacon down there and go for a drive early in the morning and you've got yerself breakie on the go !

lol, yep. I would be worried on where and how it would come out from the sills and all over a nice clean drive, I'm sure it wouldn't just pool in the sills, it will find a way out.....:wheelchair:

i did it to mine a few days ago lol!!!!

Block up all the holes so it cannot come out. I poored loads in mine. Drive it around for a few days so all the oil can get every where.

Then remove the plugs so it drain out and use plenty of sheets and little tubs or whatever. If all of it dosnt come out then cool means its got somewhere where moisture could get traped :)

Agreed with this, most mechanics say if you have an oil leak, it is good for the underbody of the car.

Alz.

Cheers lads.

Car.Mad - how did you get the oil in?

If you take the kick plate off (plastic one) and lift the carpet up there are loads of holes covered up with black circular tape. I just sliced the tape put a pipe inside the sill hooked up to a funel and just pored the oil in.

There are about 6 holes in each sill to cap off underneath :)

cost and i doubt it will get everywhere as good a oil would.

I put a good few leters in each of my sills. it would cost a fortune with that stuff lol!!!

yea, and a good few litres will just come out LOL

you can buy the stuff in bulk if you wanted to but it is nice & free flowing when it comes out & offers far better long term protection!!

or just stick to some Mazola in your sills :cowboy:

well it cost me free because we were given about 40l of diesel oil. do it once a year and job done, been doing it for years.

It would cost me about £50/£60 the amount i put in

could put a few cans in but i will always use oil. the old tricks are the best :)

tight arse - even if you did spend that much on wax its half a tank of fuel!!! :clown:

up to you but would (did) personally do it properly with wax - once in it will seal for many years.

Would there not be a chance of the some oil dripping in front of the rear tyres turning it into a drift car?

yes and :lol::lol:

Not if its all drained off properly. there is proberly more oil on the roads anyway. Ive been doing it for years and my dad before me and we have never had an issue

Can you just get the aerosol stuff and spray it in there?

yes mate - they usually come with a long nozzle to get right into sills & panels that sprays in a circular pattern to coat all sides of the cavity :)

ebay or find a motor factors that do paint supplies for bodyshops - they will have them

Except where this theory falls down is that the oil floats on top of the water, so you get a little puddle at the bottom where it rusts, just like in oil/diesel tanks !

If there is a convenient hole, you're much better off squirting Waxoyl type stuff in there.

Bilt Hamber do a cavity wax called dynax s50. It comes in an aerosol with a long tube for getting to the ends of sills etc. Its really easy to use and comes out very favourably against other cavity waxes in a few tests I found when I googled it. I think you could do both sills for around £30.

Hope you guys that have done this remeber to tell the new owner if you ever sell it?

"oh i will just weld that little patch on the sill, umm it seems to be on fire"

They used to do a 5ltr container of it as well for about £40, think I must have srayed about 3.5ltrs of the stuff into my sills, just to make sure :)

Thanks. That stuff looks good, I might well give it a go. I don't have a problem but I don't want to get one!

Does anyone know the easiest access point to get it in there? That lad did show me one near the rear seat (2+2 car).

You can get access to the arches and sills by removing the three quarter panel(not sure of the correct name!) on the inside of the car. Theres also a hole that gives access, behind the carpet that covers the sill to the side of the front seats.

Brilliant. Thank you. :D

Also if you just take the kick plate trims off the sills you can do the whole length of the inner sill front to rear through the holes for the fixing screws :)

That looks more suitable for a man of my modest ability. Cheers!
