Following on from my prepping the zed for paint thread; I've taken some pictures of the dent on the pass side rear qtr.

I could fix it myself with the worlds supply of filler but that would probably only end in tears. lol. I'd much rather that a body shop pulled it out as much as possible and then filled whats left.

How much roughly would I be looking at to have this pulled and filled by a bodyshop? I don't need it painted as the car is getting a respray.

Or would it be cheaper to cut out and replace with another rear qtr of a breaker? I'm thinking that it would be better to replace the dented sill with a new panel anyway.

The door is being replaced so not worried about that.

Cheers

£200 maybe?

How much is your respray costing?

Don't know yet mate, I'm thinking in the region of 1.5Kish.

I could get you the car repaired and painted cheap, but if you want a show finish, i wouldn't. You changing the colour or staying the same?

It's not going to be a show and shine mate so no worries there. The colour is staying black but at the moment it's GL1, which Nissan no longer support. I will be changing it to KH3 black which is a slightly different shade.

You can get it pulled out so wont need a new rear quarter. Also if you remove your rear panel next to the seat, using a heat gun or hair dryer, you can attempt to push out alot of the dent, which will also save you money at the body shop.

paint less dent removal would be the way to go with that dent matey as long as the paint isnt cracked, the small hole on the other hand lol

Or there is the home remedy thats always worth a try, get some compressed air, or a block of dry ice and rapidly cool the dent. then with a hair dryer or heat gun, heat the panel it might pop back into place as the rapid expansion takes hold

The problem with that dent is that the metal has been stretched, you need to do it properly with a shrinking hammer to remove the high spots. Its quite nasty TBH maybe £7-800 for a reasonable job im guessing.

Let me know mate. If you wanted to come to Birmingham, id say he'd repair that and paint it all for about £800.

Cheers

bloody hell that's cheap Jim, does he want to do mine too lol,

i wouldn't go down the filler root under any circumstances, that's what someone has done on mine, same panel funnily enough and it just keeps cracking, looks terrible TBH. before i can get it sprayed going to have to remove all the filler and get a body shop to pull it out,

similar dent on mine garage quoted around 300 (but that's to remove the filler and pull without paint on mine) could give me an exact quote as not sure what state its in under the filler

To repair to a standard ready to paint any bodyshop would easily make that repair in the £200 area, but there will be a final skim of filler who ever repaired it.

Thanks for all the repsonses folks.

I've tried removing the rear seat and qtr but I can't get at the dent from behind as there are other skins in the way, luckily these haven't been touched.

The main dent hasn't stretched the metal and should pull out ok but as Jeff said it will still need a skim of filler to finish off. The hole was me attempting to pull it out with a slide hammer, soon gave up with that idea lol. The metal in that area has been stretched

I think I'll feel much better about the car when I get that bit fixed and some paint on it.

This man knows what he is on about. Ya he is right. Body work is harder than u think. Alot of people think its easy. But if u dont do it right, it will look shit when its painted or 12 months later it starts looking shit.

By looking at that picky mate you need weld up that hole then the panel needs hitting out with shrinking hammer getting that panel to the close as possible the its right shape, and then a trim off the good old filler. Spending time on gettin it bod on. Try doing it ur self u wont be losing anything.

The dent would be pulled from the outside using one of these
