when driving does anyone else find the centre section around the gearstick and handbrake gets very hot as well as the trim underneath and the floor carpets ( all be it tweed/ leather) mine is literally baking these days after 20 miles or so.......

Had any work done by garages recently? under there between the exhaust and the propshaft/gearstick is a heatshield...which makes a surprisingly large difference. If yours is missing then the above symptoms are explained!

heat shield still in place.... just thinking might low gearbox oil cause friction leading to creating heat?

mines the same and heat shield still there. Gearbox oil good and level fine also my short shifter is stainless steel so it gets a bit warm lol

silly question and dont take it the wrong way, is this your first rwd car? often people who are new to them are suprised by the heat coming from the tunnel because they have never had a gearbox in there before. :D

agreed both of my zeds got warm, first one more than the second although the metal gear knob in this one is either 400 billion degrees in this weather (nice! for once!) or minus 272*c... many people thought that lancaster uni had the coldest place on record for many years, it was lancaster but not the uni, it was a dam zed gearknob!

My BM's also got warm on the cross gender tunnel!

no bud had over 20 rwd cars, no offence taken, only reason i ask is its recently started, never used to get hot....

youve got aftermarket turbos havnt you, i assume they would generate more heat, perhaps its heat transfering through the fire wall etc?

yea, i do bud. thanks for the help people, i guess its nothing to major to worry about then :-)

cars actually running better than ever ATM, finally happy to own a 300zx. :-)

Nah i wouldnt think so, do you have an aftermarket water temperature gauge just to make sure the car isnt getting a bit warm overall? Wouldnt hurt to check the gearbox oil just incase its getting warm through being low.

drift iridium gauges matey :-) built into the standard cluster :-) hehehe fuel and water temp. ;-)

Well I was only thinking how hot my centre console was yesterday when I was giving it some wellie down the A38:confused1:....but then I put it down to standing out in the sun with the roof off for about 2 hours in hot sunshine.....:whistling:

FINALLY does this mean you will keep the zed now? have you sorted your interior out yet that would make it hot if you had no centre section in

I'd say it's nothing to worry about as well......

.....hot weather, gearbox and exhaust all lurking under the transmission tunnel or thereabouts - perfrectly normal in my opinion!

Richard:thumbup1:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

BMWs just bore me tbh afterall they make the same chassis with a 1.6 engine dont they? its like a car for a middle age person who wants to catch up on the youth he never had however has 3 kids so needs the room for the pram. good luck selling the zed the market is dead only ones people buy is with a great bargain attached to them

What coolq is looking at, you could argue that the E92 came with anything from a 2.0 diesel engine but although the basic shell is the same, the suspension, track, bushes, brakes, wheels, diff, transmission are all different. Not to mention the fabulous 4.0 V8 motor in there. The body panels are different on "M" cars, an awful lot of people get confused between M Sport and a proper M car, the M sport cars are what were just called "Sport" up until 2001 or so, then BMW realised that everybody liked to pretend they had an M car, so simply put M infront of the sport... sadly you can get most models as an M Sport. The body work is similar but thats where it ends.

Its a LONG LONG way from a base model standard car with a big engine it! CoolQ, a stunning car is the E92 M3, no way my finances will allow for many years and dam I'd be jealous!
