since buying my uk 93 tt my ariel has never worked,is this right cos ive never seen a zed with one extended.how would i no that the motor is dead. and is there a simple way of checking that it is the motor that is fucked.

well...if you have a radio, and certainly when it's still the stock one, the motor/aerial is supposed to work.

Usually it's not the motor that's broken though, but the mechanism that gets the aerial up and down.

the aerial doesnt really matter tho cos there are 2 aerials. The electric one and the one in the back windscreen (top wires)

The one in the screen is pants. My ariel motor runs but doesn't drive the ariel up. I have to pull it up manually. Has anybody got a link to a post showing how to take out the ariel and fix the motor/gears?

BTW I thought the rear screen aerial was for AM only ... May be it is just to boost the signal in towns. Years ago I heard that all Jap radio transmitters are based in the middle of the city and radiate outwards. That is not the typical method of transmitting in the UK.

Hi Guy's

What is likely to be wrong with mine!!!.

You can here the motor work and it raises the mast about 2", then the mast stops coming up, but you can hear the motor still working, then it stops and i have to pull the mast up manually.

What has broken and is it replaceable.

Any info much appreciated.

Cheers Dave.

Sounds like your aerial is just clogged up with dirt. Same thing happened to mine and the way that I fixed it was to turn the radio on - spray aerial liberally with WD-40, turn radio off, squirt 3-in-1 oil down the aerial opening, turn radio on, wipe off black gunk, spray with WD-40. Then repeat until there is no more black gunk covering the aerial proper. Took mine about 4 - 5 goes.

Anita.
