if im honest.... i love the looks of the zed... but the sound of an RB... both together....perfect car imo, not thinking power etc, just what would be nice for me

Has to be a RB28DETT,

Sounds even better, equal power to the VG etc etc.

RB28DETT???

Is that just a bored out RB26DETT???

As for te RB26, you'd probably have difficulty with the 4wd gearbox unless you can find someway of eliminating the drive to the front wheels.

If your set on putting an RB series engine into a z32, the '25 would be the better option as the engine and box was made for RWD and you've only got to worry about one turbo!

yup exactly, not set on it... but if its possible with little hastle and my engine did go bang it would be something id defo go for

you'll need custom made engine and gearbox mounts, the wiring loom and ecu from an rb25, coolant pipes from the engine to the radiator and a custom made exhaust.

Seems like alot of hassle for not an awfy lot of gain. Just my opinion though.

I cant see any point in it myself..Your lowering the displacement and also affecting the vehicles handling. Now if you was raising the engine displacement ie a v8 or raising the power of the vg engine that would be more credible imo.Just seems alot of work for a nice exhaust note.....

Seems like a good idea to put a rb25det in it. How many 700+bhp vg32dett engines are there compared to the rb engine???.

Go for it, would be a very quick car with a easier to tune up motor over a standard tt engine.

my thoughts exactly... easy tuned, easier to work on, sounds awesome and still keep the z32 looks...

Oh yes indeed.

Although id love to put a ls1 engine in mine or a 2jz. Both sound awsome and are easily tuned.

Isn't the RB26 just a bored out RB25 with an extra turbo? :tt2:

That's because I did a 20hr shift yesterday, so forgive me for my mistake.

RB32, that's the one to go for.

And... why hasn't anyone considered mating an RB26 to a GTS gearbox? No 4WD hassle then..

Good job the RB is easy to work on with all the bottom end problems they have!!

Very well might be. I dunno, i was just asking :tt2:

Whats the RB32 out of?

RB32 is the billy-big-balls of the skyline tuning world. About as big as a RB could go before its possible to see the pistons through the side of the block..

Saw one in a R33 GTR at a track day at Cadwell park, nothing could get past him on the straights!! But he was schit slow round the bends..

Can't really remember what it sounds like..

Why bother with the Rb25, when its the same procedure to fit the better Rb26 ?

Any engine swap is a lot fo work, with a lot Custom fabrication of parts.

and 4wd does'nt come into it. Were talking about fitting the engine here, not the drivetrain.

its been done many times before.

Bear in mind that while its easier to work on, as there is more room, the VG makes more power and torque than the RB engines for the same modifications.

personally If I was going for an engine swap it would be would :

VH45DE (the engine the 300zx would of got if it werent for cost issues )

or

VQ30DET(T) (the engine that replaced the VG30DETT and the 300zx would of got if they had continued production)

yowser what cars are those engines in?

The Vh45de is a 4.5 litre V8 that was fitted in a relatively detuned state to the Infiniti Q45 , which is Nissans Luxury Car range. The engine was also used in the 300zx le-mans and other Nissan race cars.

Nissan originally considered it for the 300zx but decided it was too expensive and they were worried about buyers being put of by a large engine when a lot of the world was approaching an economic recession at the time.

John Dixon had done a fantastic Vh45de conversion to his 300zx, bored out to 5.0 litre, with individual throttle bodies, dry sump setup and an aggressive Cam setup.

The engine is considered by many to be the best ever built by Nissan, and is essentially built for Racing, then detuned for the Road.

Think Racing Ferrari v8, rather than lazy yank V8.

The VQ30det was fitted to the Nissan gloria, Cima, Leopard. Those cars used to use the VG30de but the VQ30det replaced it. Its the a 3.0 V6 like our Z32 engine, but is much lighter being all alumniumuim with better breathing and lighter internals, allowing it to rev faster and higher. Its basically a more efficient, stronger, lighter, modernised version of our engine.

Nissan used it in twin turbo form in 350z and GT-R race cars, replacing the vg35 and the rb26

It does'nt sound as impressive as a big V8, but it is cheaper and easier to install and many would say its more in keeping with the Z32's original design, but an improvement over the original. There is quite a bit of aftermarket support for this engine.

Both engines are about 300bhp in standard form.

VQ30det sounds a good move, as for the other 1 listed it dosent appeal to me, im never going to be chassing huge power! and dont fancy the running costs of a 4.5 v8.

if i were doing any of the builds mentioned it would be to suit my needs, taste and driving style

and for those reasons the rb25 is still a good option in my opinion

I saw an RB30 this weekend and I tell you it was an amazing engine. Even Pete was getting excited about it despite it 'not' being in a 240 :)
