Turbo boost

A guy who used to work for Garrett's is now working at our place and I got onto the topic of Turbos and boost pressures with him.

He was really quite high up the technical marketing ladder and knows his T25s from his T28s etc...

Anyway, he pointed out that to increase the boost pressure you'd simply need to adjust the wastegate actuator arm rather than putting boost jets in - after all, the pressure is still going to be the same throughout the entire hose, a restricted jet might slightly delay opening (through interfering with the flow) but it won't make any difference to the actuating pressure.

I'm not trying to re-write the turbo bible but I did think his comments made sense.

Just my 1/4 pence worth ;-)

cheers,

AHH, thats how I understood it too, until I came on this place.

Also a whole turn on the actuator, works out to some exact figure as well. Cant remember what though???

Rob ask your mate at work if he knows.

It's true that you basically only have to change the wastegates to increase/decrease maximum boost-level.

The problem with our cars is though, that you can't get to the wastegates without removing the turbos (and therefore the engine) out of the car.

That's why it's easiest to just stick something inside the hoses (be it boostjets or a boostcontroller-actuator) that run to the wastegates to delay/control them in opening.

Yes that is an old trick. Another one is to put the water temp sensor in a small enclosed water container. There for the choke stays on providing more fuel to the engine. biggrin.gif
