Hi,

Anyone have any good tips on removing the grey/black goo/mastic that's used to seal lamps etc?

Cheers

yeah, heating it only makes it more of a mess... keep it cool and use a plastic/wood scraper (so as not to scratch the surface).

I found that WD40 gets the last bits off really nice.... :)

I used a hair drier a stanley blade and a couple of screw drivers to lever up, mine was grey sealer.

I've ended up sticking the bits in the freezer then using a stanley knife to cut as much away as possible. Then use petrol/thinners/tar remover/wd40 to remove what's left. Only thing I'm worried about is damaging the lenses :(

I'm sure I've posted this before but I'll post it again

BLUE PAINT BRUSH CLEANER..!

available from all DIY stores, it dissolves the mastic and cleans it completely off.

Yep, thats it. I went through the shelves in my garage trying everything to remove the stuff, then found that stuff works a treat. probably still best to scrape as much of first then use that to get the last off.

and it will clean it off your hands afterwards.

Croeso, thank you, much better than petrol or white spirit :)
