Yesterday the Zed did a 800km trip without a single problem.

Started in Andover, then via Basingstoke arrived in Dover. Quick trip over the splosh and next stop was home, Gutersloh in Germany. Purred all the way there, only problem the fuel gauge goes down quite quickly LOL.

On the down side there's still smoke from the right hand exhaust :censored:, only on idle and not every time, very strange !

That's some drive there fella,

But you shouldn't sound surprised - it is what they were built for! Its only because there have been so many Zeds neglected or poorly maintained, that they have a tendancy to go bang.

As for the smoke, I'd wait for the problem to get worse before I'd get too concerned. I think it would be difficult to find the cause until it get more symptomatic. You'll just have to start driving it a lot more often to find out (tough job I know)!

Did you go via any autobahns?

the erratic smoke could be something as simple as oil left over somewhere in the system getting burnt off?

Only about 170km of Autobahns LOL. Didn't smash it tho as it was 5am and was pretty knackered by then.

I've had problems with the smoke before but this was down to boost leaks and subsequent over fuelling. It's de-catted so will put some on and see what happens.

I did the PC Valves but this should have burnt off by now, NickZ32 said it may be a puddle of oil that's built up in the intercooler??????

That's the problem,

With a small amount of smoke it could be any number of things. Best thing is to start saving for a rebuild/new engine. Then thank god if its only something simple to fix it!

If it is something sinister it will continually get worse. I'd monitor the problem for a while before I stripped anything down..

tbh my experience of these cars in the last year since I bought mine, has been anything minor in appearance, is usually minor, if somethings going to go wrong, it doesn't usually happen slowly, it tends to just happen, and smoke could be anything from rings, to turbo seals, to oil puddle in the intercooler, to oil left over from the pcv's etc. I take it it's blue smoke not black or white? If it's black smoke, it's probably just from overfueling, if it's blue, wait til it gets worse and hope it doesn't and just goes away as remnants of old problems tend to.

How much did that cost in fuel mate?

Erm £75 in England to fill it, put €40 in it in Holland and then roughly 15 litres of tax free fuel. It roughly works out about 1.75 tanks. Rough working out about 30mpg.....ish.

Thats good going! Thought it would have been more than that tbh.

15 litres of tax free fuel.

Not heard of that though? :) lol

We (the Army) get tax free fuel in Germany, works out about half price

Damn, you could have brought me some over

When I bought the swb zed I flew to Stansted and drove it home 435 miles of trouble free zedding back to Belfast so you beat me there Rob.

If the weather is good I might take it to JAE in September for another long run so hope it all works out.

Not by a lot mate, pretty similar distance I think. Sure yours will be fine mate.

The only problem is the smoke on mine which put doubt in my mind, it's ok on the move, no smoke at all but about 60% of the time on idle it pumps out stinking oily smoke. It clears if you rev above 1500rpm. I'm hoping that putting the cats back on will give me some back pressure back and cure it !!!!!!!!

sorry mate if its tub seals caused my decatting putting them back will not reverse or halut the problem. from your previous stuff though when the issue started i would say its pcv related, its probally just whats left burning off could take a few 1000 miles for it to all burn off. so hopefully its just that. :D
