I have fitted my greddy boost gauge today and im only getting 0.5 bar of boost which i belive is low? its a standard manual tt with only an apexi filter, egr, aiv, prvp, carbon canister all removed and cat back system.

What should i be getting (is 0.7/8 about right) and what would be the reason im not getting full boost?

well im doing an ecu test today but im pretty sure im code 55 any ideas what it could be im guessing boost leak somewhere?

I can sort a leak tester/vac tube out for you, hadn't had a chance to text you back about that sorry mate.

0.5 bar is around 7psi i believe standard boost level is 9psi. so yeh sounds like your on saftey boost, or have a boost leak. try resetting the ecu first, undo the batt and leave for about half hour then hook it back up. if that doesnt sure it you may want to do a boost leak test, this is a very common issue. theres about 30 odd feet of induction pipe on a z32. there are plently of how too guides on here for boost leak testing. the other thing worth mentioning is your recirc valves. do you get goose honk?

Ok thanks anthonyd let me know when you have them and ill pick them up when your about. And i did have a goose honk noise up to about 3pm yesterday when i took rec off and replaced with baily dump valves but i still had low boost before and after. Ecu does say code 55.

Take car for a drive, then test ECU WITHOUT turning ignition off. Some codes are reset with ignition and only occur during driving.

Other possibilies are boost leak or Faulty boost solenoids.

ok will do i have had the battery disconnected for over an hour and still no better i will try doing it with out switching car off and report back. How can i test the boost solenoids?

tbh, the boost solenoids are the least likely. I would check the error code as mentioned above and do a Boost leak test. Make sure you get the car well into positive boost when you take it for a drive first.

The best method for a boost leak test is using compressed air and a boost leak test valve which fits in place of your MAF. A number of forum members own one, but they can also be purchased from conceptzperformance.com and other U.S places Im sure.

The first step in testing the boost solenoids is to check they are plugged in and getting a power feed.

yeah i have ordered a leak tester from anthonyd so as soon as i get it i will be testing for leaks but i thought i would have running problems with a boost leak no?

Is it only code 34 that will put the car in safety mode? I did have code 34 a while back and i found that the det senor plug was gone on both det sensor and wireing loom. I re done the wiring best i could and code 34 cleared but thinking about i dont think my car has ever boosted as well as it should be! can det sensor be changed with plenum off and no egr valve?

There are about a dozen sensor failures (and error codes) that will cause safety mode.....code 34 being a common one.

Yeh, with plenum removed (and the lower intake) you can get to the Det sensor. Its quite popular just to bypass it with a 1megohm resistor.

The sensors do fail...epsecially if the engine has ever got hot at some point, but its more typical for the wiring to the sensor to fail.
