I am thinking of swapping my daily soon (Saab 9-5 Aero) and quite fancy a 300C diesel approx 2008 model. I have looked at a 530d but the same money will only buy a 2005 car. The looks of the 300C has grown on me and I think you get a lot of car for your money.

Has anybody had any experieces of these cars? good or bad...

Cheers, Dan

Not driven a 300C, but I own a Chrysler Grand Voyager, it is among the top of the best cars I have had, it's a 2.8 diesel.

I'd suggest test driving both. You cant really compare the 2 cars.

One is the worlds best Executive sports saloon with one of the best diesel engines available, built with top notch build quality with the finest materials with vastly superior sports handling. Its faster, more economical, much better to drive and holds its value better.

The other one is....erm...cheap and......different. I quite like its quirky looks, but thats all.

i agree i quite like the 300c but they arnt holding there value well. not well at all, is there a reason for this? i dunno. but i would bet its probally to do with poor mpg due to its yank hertiage and cheap build quality. i love american cars but we all know they are made out of lunch boxes.

My mate has one, the diesel and he loves it ! Other mate has the Hemi one, its a monster. As suggested, test drive both and judge from there.

In Europe and Australia, the 300C is available with a 3.0 L diesel V6 engine (internal code OM642) developed by Mercedes-Benz. It produces 218 hp (163 kW) and 376 lb·ft (510 N·m) of torque and will soon be available with NOx BlueTec clean-diesel technology. Fuel economy for the 300C diesel is rated at 26.2 mpg-US (8.98 L/100 km; 31.5 mpg-imp) City, 42.8 mpg-US (5.50 L/100 km; 51.4 mpg-imp) Highway and 34.9 mpg-US (6.74 L/100 km; 41.9 mpg-imp) on the combined cycle. Acceleration from 0-60 mph happens in 7.9 seconds while the top speed remains the same as the petrol V6 (140 mph (230 km/h)).

Alan...............

Spent about 10 days with one in America a few years ago, mostly sat in the back. Very comfy in the back, and massive amounts of legroom. That's about all I can remember of it.

Not driven one but they are one of the best looking saloon cars on the road today! (Imho)

Had a test drive a good fews years back of a petrol 300C 5.7 hemi, they were very slow movers sales wise and having been told this I showed some interest in one and a Crysler dealer some 20 miles from me send one to our workshop with a salesman for me to try even though I asked to try a hemi 6.1the test drive went bad, I loved the gangster looks and the after market front ends you can get....BUT what a disapointment inside, acres of hard non tactile plastic and some very poor switch gear, all of this could have been forgiven if the performance had been as awsome as suggested by the salesman......but it could not have disapointed me any more, the engine lacked any kind of sparkle the autobox was super slick but even the sports mode was like a bus change, I guess the weight of the car was the issue combined with a strangled engine, the 300c is based on a Mercedes bodyshell and should have some cross over parts but I dont know how they did it but they spoilt the German underpinnings, I was really sad as I did and still love the look of them.

They are based on the early Merc E-class; not the current one or the one just replaced, but the one before that......

.......and that's all I know about them!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

A hemi with 2 turbos strapped on for good measure.. now that would be a monster. Looks wise they are very gangster in black, got to say I love them!! But I saw the saddest thing the other day in the local city centre. One badged up as a bentley!!! bentley badges repacing the C, and it was labelled the B300. Only the wheel badges gave it away, even the steering wheel had been changed. Better yet after checking it out online, a local leasing company were leasing it out as a bentley!!! :O

I want one some day, and I worked for Chrysler for 11 years! that says something lol. Driven all the different variants, obviously the SRT8 is the cream of the crop, but the diesels are very good and powerful if you get one that's been chipped. Saying that the hemi v8 is good too and not as thirsty as you may think as when you are just trundling along the multi displacement system cuts the engine down to 4 cylinders in a fraction of a second. And they look bloody awesome!

I was going to say I think it was based on the model of E Class that Joan of Ark had!

I'm not a fan i'm sorry, it looks like a badly styled cheap bentley and for that it cannot be excused. I think the boot is to short, or to shallow. I can never work out what is wrong, but I'm sure the wheel arch is far too close to the top of the boot lid. Its just not right!

Apart from the SRT8 or the hemi v8, which your just buying it for the engine, it wouldnt be my choice.
