can it be done and is it easier to do with the box out the way? got a turbo change and auto to manual conversion coming up, i will most likely just take the engine out to change the turbos, but can it be done with the engine in the car if the gear box is removed? as you would, i assume, get more access to the turbos.

ian i think you should pull the block and the box at the same time then, you can do it properly and cahnmge all those annoying little old hoses etc. it will also make fitting the new flywheel and bolting the box up far easier as its easier to align on the deck than a foot off the floor with the heavy box on your chest. just my two pence worth. also i swear we discussed this before and it was aid yeh its possible but it takes just aslong and if you do get a stubborn bolt etc your stuffed.

I do listen, but mikey you should know, that where i am at the moment, isnt the best place to be getting engines out of cars with, if i need to pack up or need to run to get a part, im pretty much stuffed, also, last time i asked, the box was staying on the car, not being removed.

Agreed, definitely more room to work around the engine that way. i suppose i best make sure i have everything i need before i start lol

So what pain is it to get the engine and box in together? i have this coming up soon and it makes sense, but i have read somewhere that you need a really acute angle to get it in.

to get box and engine out together, you need to drop the front sub frame, and have plenty of room to angle it, which i wont be able to do, so gearbox will have to come out separate to the engine, but then saying that, its only 8 bolts holding the gearbox to the engine, and 6 bolts, gear selector / and wiring + prop holding the gearbox to the car, don't forget the starter motor lol

On my breaker, i dropped the engine out with the box on it on the subframe. Lifted the car up and dragged the engine on a pallet forward. Then unbolted the box.

Would have thought putting it back in would be dificult..

well, when i did my engine change on the N/A, i took the gearbox off first, and then took the engine out the top, once it was out, got the new engine and lowered it in, got it on the engine mount holes, and did them up, left everything unplugged on the engine, while i refitted the gearbox, had to get a mate to help put the gearbox on the jack, but once its on, takes two people to steady it, and another to push on the engine so that it leans towards the bulk head to get the angle on it to get the gear box on.

Only help i had changing that, was JamieTT knocking my auto spigot bearing out, and getting the gear box back onto the engine, everything else i did my self.
