LeoE Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I use this stuff: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68898-fuchs-titan-race-pro-s-10w-50-ester-synthetic-engine-oil.aspx Fuchs 10-50. The car seems to like it, although I've not tried other oils. Quote

BUT your garage is not giving you good advise - Nissan specified a 10w40 semi-synthetic when the car was first sold so a mineral oil is way too inferior! At the very least you should stick with the Nissan recommendation; but engine oils have moved on since the early 1990s and a fully synthetic has superceded the semi as the performance car's choice. Stick with a decent brand, and has a minimum viscosity rating of "40" when hot (eg 0w40; 5w40 or 10w40 - they all rank the same once the engine has warmed up as the first number refers basically to cold viscosity) and you won't go wrong. beermonster Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 used magnatec in mine for 8 years no problems whatsoever. Quote
Tudor... Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 me too, magnatec 10w-50 was on offer, 4 litres 20 quid, plus a litre free, put it in after the engine was run in, and seems lovely, smooth and quiet... Quote
Tudor... Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 but i don't for one minute believe all the 'intelligent' magnetism crap :) just hope it's good quality.... Quote
Old Zed Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 with my new built engine i chose to run 10/40 semi for the first 1000 miles to run the engine in with. not sure what to put in after the 1000 miles are up yet. lol Strictly speaking you should not you synthetic for running in but mineral based oil which allows bearings to lap into the surfaces. Synthetic creates a coating on the surfaces and stops this process happening which is why you should use it in the longer term. Quote
Tudor... Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I used running in oil, supplied by the engineer shop who bored my block, it's basically crap oil that's not very slippy, as said, allows everything to bed in, rather than being too lubricated... Quote
