Morning Gents

Had the car up on the jack at the weekend to replace the starter motor (cheers to Baz for coming to the rescue) and noticed the rear tyres have become somewhat slick

Have been looking at prices of replacements. Don't want to spend a fortune as MOT is due very soon and I have a feeling that will zap some funds. I've spoken to Jeff about part worns and he's going to have a look what he has but also looking at new ones....prices below for 255/40/ZR17's...what would you buy?

GT Champero £91.95

Marshall £95

Yokohama £113

Toyo £130

Conti-Sport £180

Many thanks

Dave

steer clear of the cheap stuff! Not worth the risk on a sports car with 300lbft of torque!

Have you looked at that size in some Falken FK452s? Ive got them all round and they're pretty well rated on here.

Depends which model of tyre each of those brands listed are. Each brand offers a range of different tyres.

Everyone has there own opinions on tyres, and its probably more about which tyres to avoid rather than which are best.

But a couple of good and popular choices are, dependent on your budget :

The Falken Fk452 - Budget Performance tyre.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric - Premium Performance tyre.

I have to be honest here. My Nankang NS2's aint been too bad and are lasting very nicely! The grip isn't quite as good as the fk452 but they aren't half bad.

Thanks Guys. I was leaning towards the Yokohamas but will have a look at the Falkens too

Cheers for the advice

Yoko's are a good tyre but as said falken are to although i think slightly lower down the performance list, if you can get hold of fk452's though go for it i tried for weeks but prob down to the size i wanted

toyo and the conti's have good feedback too!!

I always put cheap tyres on the back, with the correct speed rating of course.

I'm running Sunnys at the moment and they are carved from solid granite. In the dry they are fine, but in the wet they are lethal - just how I like it. Makes it much easier to slide, you don't have to be as rough with the car. But, you have to back off 5mph extra when going round corners normally, just to leave a safe margin for the unexpected. It can also spin the tyres in fourth at about 80-90mph if your not careful (again, when its wet), so proceed with caution. Depends what you want your car to do..

They've done 7 thousand miles in my hands and havn't worn a millimetre either - despite all the abuse I give them. My mate has a M3 with Michelins on it, he gets 3000 miles between sets...

wear rates..

I remember when I bought my z, it had those dreadful Sunnys on it.

I think the name derives from it being the only weather condition in which they work!

Exactly what he said!

Remember the tyres are the only thing between you and the road so don't ever skimp on them - especially in a 300bhp RWD monster of a car.

PS - me, I have the Goodyear asymetrics and they are absolutely superb. But you do pay for that kind of performance......

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

unless your planning on some heavy track work or driving round like a loon, does it really matter on a road car??? get whatever you want mate, shouldnt let others dictate.

i went for yoko but only as i could not get the size i wanted for the front in fk452 straight off the shelf!!

I'd say for sure it does!

A crap cheapo brand of tyre can be lethal even at perfectly legal road speeds. And different brands of tyre can give varying performance on different makes of car (eg Continentals seem to do well on German cars; whereas Yokos or Falkens work well on Japanese cars, but not so well on others!). And that's before you take weather conditions into account - even near gentle acceleration in the wet in a 300zx TT could be risky on cheap tyres.

Anyone who advocates racing Honda Civic Type-Rs on the A14 should be able to tell you that.......:innocent:

Driving round like a loon?? Me?? :whistling:

Was just canvassing for opinions.....the car rarely sees wet roads so dry weather performance is all that matters really.

Jeff has offered me a very good price on some part worn Marshall Matrac's which seem to have good dry weather reviews so will probably go for these this time around.

Thanks to everyone for their input :)

2nd hand tyres are usually shit mate, taken off coz they're worn/ out of performance, not worth it bud. even 4mm tread tyres are pretty worn, just my 2p worth, good luck mate.
