I personally prefer the LWB Z, Why do people prefer the SWB model? Is it just down the personal preference?

Ah well, I would happily pay if I knew I was definitely getting a Z.

i've got a lwb and you can't state a car that you can barely fit anything in those 2 rear seats as a estate car imho . both cars are great the only thing that personally i wouldnt buy is a slicktop no matter how much people tend to love them, i personally love the targas and they are one of the parts that make the zed so special imho, i dont like air conditioning and never did so it wouldnt work out for me .

both cars are sports cars at the end of the day : ) and many true sports cars have rear seats just look at the skyline for example.

Both versions are great..................

.........The SWB boot is quite a lot deeper than the LWB boot, meaning you can fit stuff in that you could never fit in the LWB. It lacks the space offered by rear seats ofcourse, but the difference in luggage praticalty is less than you would think.

LOL - you haven't experienced my wife's packing mate!! 100 outfits for a week's holiday with different shoes to match......:cursing:

Richard:oops:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'm with Yowser on this, I found it easier to get stuff into the SWB boot compared to the LWB... until I put the cage in anyway!

people keep saying about the boot space on the swb. its huge!! twice as deep as the fuel tank is in the middle compaired to under the boot in the lwb.

last week i had in the boot

very large 6 man tent

double readybed which was 2/3 the size of the 6 man tent bag

two bags (one large sports bag and a medium size suitcase)

full camping equiptment including 2 ground sheets lights camping stove and all cooking utensils.

additional blankets

plus i fitted a bike rack on the back with 2 adult mountain bikes.

did over 500 miles with it all without a problem so yes the swb is also as practical as the family version!

i personally dont like the swb without the spoiler as i think it makes it look too short but the 89 spec spoiler finishes it off perfect imo. giving it that little extra "length" to the rear of the boot to compliment it perfectly.

everyone seems fixated on boot space and such surely if you are looking for boot space you shouldnt be looking for a sports car maybe a family saloon would suit you better and if you need the rear seats same again. As for the rear end would anybody say that the zeds like Daffy`s, Bobgenie`s and mine dont look good? :)

ahmen to that :D

I like all Zeds, but at some point while I was looking for one I fell for the shortie as I think it looks better proportioned, and as already said, why do you need rear seats in a sports car ? :)

i went with the lwb for a big reason, i simply didnt know about the swb. you can hardly call the rears seats hence why its a 2+2 you could get two children in there, tahst what i keep telling the mrs in relivance t keeping it long term. anyways ive had an adult or two in there and they end up sat sideways. theres just no leg room. ive laways liked muscle cars which are generally four seater so it never seemed a big deal to me. all of this proportion talk is grat however at a quick glace when rolling by its hard to tell. me and hellraiser where recently parked next to eachother hand having the conversation about how much sorter his shortie is when up close to compare its only 9"s iirc. looks alot sat side by side but flying past at upwards or 50 who can tell. yeh the lwb looks a tad lanky at times but tahts what makes it a super gt rather than just another sorts car.

I must admit the boot on my SWB was more useful than me LWB... however my LWB boot was different to most as for some reason someone in previous ownership had used a standard alloy as a spare and had a custom boot carpet made to fit the spare = ergo giving a massive great wheel shaped lump in the boot which made it less useful to say the least!

I can say in all honesty that boot space never crossed my mind when buying a zed, that's what my vectra estate is for. As for shorty's having a better rear end, when looked at from behind you can't tell the difference between a swb or an lwb so again no.

I prefer the lwb as the shorty looks a little too erm,,,, short, but still like them though:)

id like a Shortie manual TT shortie. Mainly cause i dont like people sitting in the back and id like the improved handling.

I can honestly say I've never felt the chassis twist or wobble in my LWB. I've had a few different cars over the years, the VR4 Galant we have now feels way less stable in the corners than the 300, the Subaru WRX Wagon we had in NZ however felt like it was on rails, no bend, no flex, no wobble and it was nearly as long as the VR4 and was the estate version.

I think the shorties are nice, I worked on when a few years ago when I was working as a mechanic in NZ, but to be perfectly honest, the Targas are necessary for me, it's what drew me to the car, over another GTR or Supra. My 5 year old fits in the back perfectly, along with my 15 year old sat next to him (Albeit sideways) and I've had 4 adults in the car before without too much of a struggle too.

The car is coming off the road for a while now for re-furbishments (lol) and when it's back on the road it'll be my sunday/track/show car rather than my daily driver, since I'm now mostly going to be working from home. But I still do like the fact that if I really need to take more than one person to a destination, I can. I have friends, and I have family, that means some flexibility is required sometimes.

Im not looking for boot space, I just prefer the option to cram someone in the back, Between me and my friends theres alot of us and only say 15-18cars between us so when we all decide to go out for a convoy or out in the summer its better to have that bit extra room. Thats always been the reason I never bought an MR2 turbo yet wanted one.

If possible could someone please pm Dave@FJ from saying im (benyon) cant send PM's as im not a payed member but I would like a quote from him when possible, and whats the best way to contact him for the quote? would appreciate if anyone could do that for me.

swb 's models are mainly t-topped too!

mine is a swb t-top

Yeah I wasn't insinuating they all were Slicktops, but most of my post was about the flexing of the chassis due to the shortie not only being shorter, but also due to the slicktop on some of them as well. So I was really commenting on the fact I need the LWB for the extra seating, limited as it may be, and that I WANT the targas :D lol

thanks ok then. tbh i find my shorty to be very stable cornering and is very predictable when the back end does break free.

Yeah, I feel the same about my LWB. Even though it's a LWB with targas, round corners it just feels like it flattens itself to the floor and GRABS hold of the road. Odd for a rear wheel drive car. The VR4 is AWD and about 60/40 split but doesn't feel anywhere near as tight in the bends as the 300 does.

The slicktop has less flex than the others that's a simple fact. Whether many of us drive fast enough for that to make a difference is another matter. The SWB handles entirely differently to the LWB in the same way that all shorter wheelbase cars do :) It certainly turns quicker but for someone used to a longer wheelbase it might feel like over steer. If you're looking for a zed for the track then it has to be a slicktop no arguement but for normal everyday use and motorway cruising at speed I think the 2+2 offers the better drive. All IMHO of course :)

Things i dont like like about the shortie is that is just to short and when they have a wide arch on them they look really odd. I also think it looks unfinished when you look over your shoulder and you can see everything thats in your boot.

As for the flex there is only about 3/4inch differance between the wheels so not really going to be much if any differance unless your a so called raceing driver it will be hard to tell, obviously the slick top will be more rigid no doubt about that

With anti roll bars upgraded etc you can easly improve this on both models. I reckon that on a track my zed would out handle most of the shorties on a track and will be much more stable on the straights and long sweeping bends. But i have up graded every part and bush on the car lol!!

I think its probably closer to 8 inches difference ;)

TBH there isn't any competition, shorties look better and that's all there is to it :whistling:

......... now were did I put my flameproof suit :rofl::rofl:

That whats the Boot blind is for ;)

I personally prefer the SWB Interior, the design flows around the rear seats and wrapping around them in-keeping with the centre console and door design. Which you dont get with the LWB as they had to alter the design to fit the extra seats in.

The wheelbase difference is about 5 inches (120mm), and the difference in the way they drive is very noticable.
