6 frigging weeks !!, in the meantime Im using my iPhone as a modem for Internet acsess from the PC, but signal sucks here so Its on crappy 2g which is like tearing your nails out with a pair of pliers. :bored:

Im pulling my frigging hair out when each frigging webpage takes nearly 2 frigging mins to appear..if it ever appears, and Im revising for some hardcore exams coming up and most of my revision resources are frigging online and I cant frigging do anything...... :gun_bandana::mad::gun_bandana::mad:

This is Through Sky. Picked em for the TV, broadband, phone package.

Cable is not available around here.

Phoned around several yesterday, when Sky kept moving the install dates around, and they were all saying pretty much the same thing - That its down to BT Openreach who have to activate the phonelines and send out the "engineers" ..etc

LOL! speedy! My first was a 14,400 modem then got a 28,800! 56k was the nuts back then when that came out :punk:

0.5 meg broadband seemed like the most awesome thing ever when I got it

The trouble now is everything is built with broadband in mind, webpages are so bloated in comparison to what they were back then.

yep youd always blow at the elbow scene

Get ya self a mobile pay as you dongle on 3 for now, you than watch porn on hsdpa speeds (around 198kbs)

Yeh, I have one, from ages ago, but Im using the Iphone connected to PC Instead. Its acting in the same way those dongles do.

It does hspda speeds normally, but the dongles and the iPhone are all reliant on cell network signal, which is too weak here that its dropped right down to gprs mode.

I know exactly what you mean.

That said, and if you can get it, O2 Broadband (fixed line) is the best, for both quality and service.

I was with them for 3 years and they were brilliant (inc. a free-fone UK based helpline).

I recently moved to Virgin as ADSL will only ever give me 3Mbps and my area has now been cabled. 2 weeks no issues...dead today. Called Virgin @ 10p/min and they reckon it will be Wed before someone can have a look!

I was livid and seriously considered cancelling first thing tomorrow morning before it mysteriously started to work again at 11pm...

Go with my company (i work for), the service for a year costs only £25K for a 8MB line, around 2MB up depending on your phone line, oh and dont forget the SLA haha, but in seriousness i could get you a 100MB Down and up but the price would be extremely stupid :)

When im next in your area i will pop down, i have can put a temp router in and see if i can get a good sync on the line if BT have pulled their fingers out.

:D How about a cable from your Router to my PC ? Just connect it up at your end, throw is in the back of the Z with it trailing out the Window and shoot down the Motorway ?

Sounds good, Cat 5 only lasts around 100 metres before you need repeaters put in though :(

Amazing, aren't they. The actual work is a few minutes connecting up a few jumpers (if that). The delay is the paperwork, process and sorting this out with BT Openreach. It's dire. If they let you down because at the end of the day your line doesn't support ADSL (usually distance from exchange, sometimes just crap copper), let me know. We do satellite broadband and we ship same working day if ordered before 2pm. Yes, the equipment costs more than an ADSL modem and yes, it's not as fast as broadband in town. But if your phone line doesn't support more than a few hundred k, it could be a good option.

and Sky Broadband is FINALLY installed. !!!

6.5 weeks from order to install....a ****ing joke

and im only getting 2mb  despite actually living less than 100 yards from the exchange.

Try this http://www.speedtester.bt.com/

Plus it can take a few days for the line to train but this tool will tell you what your line is configured for and what is actually being achieved. If you're only getting 2MB and you're only 100 yards from the exchange (are you sure you are connected to your closest exchange?), that's below normal. May be some other problem somewhere (eg in the ground).

I live in a small village, with its own exchange, I can see it from my window now......but it seems I was a bit prematurely to complain about its speeds.....

.....the broadband went down about an hour ago...for 30mins....not sure what happened but its back and Im getting over 6mb, which is much better :D

Good Link, I like that. Thanks. :)

Better go steady tonight!

You don't wanna get tennis elbow before tomorrow morning - or loose your eyesight! :detective:

So true Yowser - they are all far to complacent nowadays to worry about small things like their customers' requirements:no:

talk talk are crap

I reckon I agree mate.

They could't even get my bills right. Last year I told them I wanted to leave once my contract had expired so they offered me the same service for £10 per month instead of the £15 I was paying; for the next 12 months.

That lasted a month or two, then it went back to about £15. I rang and rang to complain - and once through I said it was also unacceptable that they charge some stupid rate for the privilege of talking to them....

After 2 more phone calls I managed to get it down to £5 per month for 12 months, after a 3 month free period.

If I get one more incorrect bill they're finished as far as I'm concerned.

Richard:wacko:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
