Hi Chris,

Falkens do seem highly recommended and seem to work well on Japanese cars. Also for the money they probably offer the best value/performance compromise. However for all round ability I'd say you would be hard pushed to beat Goodyear Eagle F1 asymetrics.

I have them myself and I have never experienced any problems in the wet, no matter how hard I've pushed on. They didn't win an Auto Express tyre test for nothing!!

That's my choice for the ZX; although they are not cheap!

Thanks Rich im still majorly leaning towards the falkens but debating others too, mainly reading up on (set) tires and looking at reviews etc

Agreed the eaglef1's seem a very good choice, planning on this before it goes to Jeff so i can a few things at once :)

Last month I went to change my old set of Falken FK452s for a new set and found they were out of stock. Yes, everywhere in UK - no stock except for 1 set at Micheldever retail who wouldn't sell them via their wholesale dept. Aaaanyway, because of the MOT, I had no choice - needed something. My regular local tyre/wheel place (thoroughly recommendable despite the fact he does Theo Paphitis's Bentley as well :) so here's his website http://www.montyswheelsandtyres.com ) did some research and came up with these http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/car/zv5

I've had 'em for a month now and very happy. They're quieter than the FK452s and there's one corner (head north on M25 and turn off going into town on M40) where they give a very stable and steady grip. The 452s on the same corner were always a bit squirrelly by comparison.

I had the Eagle F1-s before and they were nice and grippy and looked ace - but they wore out quicker than Pete Doherty's brain cells.

Oh and PS, FK452s used to be around £75 per corner, in March 2011 if they were available would have been £85-£90 per corner, and Avon ZV5s were £100 each fitted valved and balanced. That's for 225/50 standard JDM OEM size.

LOL - I know what you mean Mike! I found that with the old F1s (the ones with the direction "V" tread pattern). But the new asymetrics do seem to fare better.....

......they look a bit more like Conti-sports. I've covered about 7k miles on my current set and they are barely half worn - as compared to the paltry 6k miles I got from the rears when I had the old style Goodyears!

Thanks for the info Gio and yes lol i did notice the lack of uk stock even through a short search :/

ace on the link too!

Hi Richard, didn't know there were new style F1s. The old ones gave me 8k (rear) on my TT. Bridgestone RE-71s a lot better, SO-2s a better, SO-3s disappointing. FK452s on my Auto? 20k plus :D result. Can't fault them for longevity.

Hi Mike - yes, they've dropped the old V-tread pattern now. You were lucky to get 8K on your old Goodyears.....

......as for 20k on the Falkens; that's excellent for a 300ZX tyre-eating-monster!! Result!
