For weeks now, ive been looking at the zed, all neglected, un loved and un driven. Mot is out, and tax.

Today so far with no girlfriend around, and no kids, i got cracking.

To start, i needed to establish the extent of the rust. SO angle grinder in hand, off it comes. stretches from the rear drivers arch to nearly half way to the door.

A couple of hours later, and ive removed whats needed. I had spare inner and return sills, thanks to a member on here. Once these were fitted, its time to tackle the outer. I got some 1mm zintek sheet from a local metal guy for nothing.

As i cant source outer sills, i made my own and did the fabrication. Only trouble was getting the correct bend in the sheet, so after taking a template of my other zed. And a bit of push and muscle around a 4" soil stack and its near perfect. Sorted out the targa drain tube as it was discharging into the wing, hence the rust problems. Well chuffed at what i have achieved, as im good with engines, and plumbing but have never used a welder. Least the fabrication is done, and saved myself a few quid. Next stop is to my mate who welds for a living, and tighten it all up. Then mot, and hopefully back ripping up the roads of sussex.

Will try and get some pics up, but have just rebuilt my pc, but it dosent like talking to my camera.

Well chuffed.

At last got my poxy camera working. bit of an update from yesterday.

After removing the dead metal, i only needed a part section of the original nissan inner sill.

A bit of prep work, and to ensure both bends in the panel were exact to oem (well as close to) i used a brazing torch, that i re do lead sheet with, worked a treat, nice and tight.

Once held in place, used lots of 3mm rivets to tighten it all up.

Now all that is needed to have my mate weld it up, and remove the rivets and cover over them. little bit of welding on the inner rear arches, then new waxoil. then good to go.

Cant believe all this crap came out from just the drivers rear sill,

Worth checking your targa drain tubes, do actually drain, and not into the bodywork. but so far has cost me £3.50 for the rivets.

Quite a saving for me and not a bad job if i dont mind saying so myself.
