Guys,

 

Have read other stuff on the site about this problem but would like a bit of clarity on what to do next. Basically have had 4 wheel alignment done and if anything the car pulls more to the left than before!! ( I have an N/A zx)

 

Should I:

 

a) I have new tyres all round, should I wait for these to 'bed in' before looking further into this issue?

 

b) go back to the alignment place and say I want them to do it again? Coz they didn't have the steering wheel straight (possibly?)

 

c) Go down the sticky caliper route? (even though the car pulls all the time not just breaking)

 

Some people speculate about the road surface camber but I had a 1990 Lude before with 4 wheel steering and the road camber made little or no difference to the car's direction??

 

It almost feels slightly harder to turn the steering wheel right than left???? don't know if that could mean something?

I had this, took the car back and said it was not running true. Another person aligned the car and all is good now.

Hi mate,

 

if it's still pulling to one side, it would suggest to me that the allignment was not done properly the first time.

 

I'd take it back and ask them to re-check it; it's not easy to get the whole set up right on the first attempt and most honourable places will happily do it again for you within a reasonable time.

did they give you a print out? if so see if you can scan & upload it & I will take a look for you

this usually points to castor being out.........

Most cars pull slightly to the left owing to the camber of the road surface!! However on a motorway, especially a concrete surface or in lanes 2 and 3, then it should drive straight!

Just got feedback from the garage that did the 4 wheel alignment. They've gone back over it with a fine toothed comb and have stated the camber is out on the nearside. One side is 1 degree and the other is 3 degree. They say this could be a bent chassie(SHIT?) or something in the suspension set up (more likely if you ask me, my car is mint!) But they said if I really wanted to get to the bottom of it I need laser alignment to diagnose the problem as their set up isn't as accurate as what I need. Any advice guys? adz

sorry mate buy I'd want a refund as surely they were happy to take your money and tell you they'd done the job properly. If they haven't got the right equipment to do your car, they should have told you that and not let your car leave saying they'd finished.

its more likely to be down to something on the suspension to be honest - check out my link on alignment with links to adjustable arms: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=43972

 

If you get adjustable arms then you should be able to bring everything back into spec. You can get adjustable upper arms for camber & torsion arms for caster. If in doubt about damage it may also be worth getting lower arms too but with the 2 adjustable arms you should be able to bring it all into spec. There is no provision as standard for caster & camber adjustment.

That's what I was thinking mate! If it wasn't a proper laser 4 wheel allignment machine then IMO they shouldn't have taken on the job in the first place.

Laser is old hat now - our new system uses 4 HD cameras :thumbup:

One to put down to experience i think...But thank you Paul C for posting that link. I think this is the route I will have to go. I have all the problems you are describing. Pull to left, the old tyres had wear on the inside, the tracking guys have diagnosed too much negative camber on one of the front tyres......Where can I get those parts??? and how much would they be? I hve a 300zx N/A 1995.

 

Also just to make a comment on the tracking guys who worked on the car. Their mistake was to do the 4 wheel alignment and then tell me it was all sorted. It then still pulls left and I take it back to them. Then they tell me that it's too much negative camber on one of the front tyres and that it's not adjustable...my point, why the f**k didn't you tell me that the first time................

I can vouch for wheels in motion totally excellent, enough said.

That was my exact point, they should have told you and not charged you as they didn't complete the job properly. Money back if I was you :(

Try Elite in Rainham They have the very latest alignment kit..... unbelievable and checks every angle simultaneously so they can see what difference each adjustment makes and get it spot on

 

Oh and don't forget the NA doesn't have HiCas so the back should be 'all square' in any case

If the camber is too negative on my front right tyre and this is what is causing me to pull to the left and camber is none adjustable on the front of the 300zx, surely there's no point in me getting anything done until I've diagnosed the issues with what ever is bent or mildly buckled on the camber arms I've got????

I would personally steer clear of ebay jobbies as they have been known to break! :wacko:
