ive had 2 engines out now on the floor on axle stands quite possible to do. If you are trying to remove the gearbox though to fit a new one make sure you can lift it high enough to get the old box out.

I've done it 4 times on axle stands, you want it about 18 inches high so you can slide the grarbox out, it's a pain in the arse tho, i used 2 jacks, and made a wooden jig to sit under the box, so i could raise or lower the rear jack to get the correct angle, then slide out using the wheels on the jacks...

ive done two differnt rwd car gearboxes on the drive but niot a zed. its fine tbh just takes a little longer and limits your access get the whole thing up off teh floor all four corners taht will help. MAKE SURE ITS STABLE!!! then get stuck in the higher you cabn get it off the floor the easier your life will be the hardest bit for me has always been getting the thing back on, even if the clutch is 100% aligned, i balance it on my chest and lift.

It can be done BUT you have to be careful, alloy bellhousings have sharp edges !! I knew some one who dropped a cavalier box years ago and it chopped right through to the tendons in his hand on four fingers :cursing: Two people would make a big difference doing the job.

"i balance it on my chest and lift." some boy lol.

exactly that, i've done it balancing on a couple of jacks, with the car in the air and a gearbox stand but, if you're doing it on your own, the easiest and quickest way is to bench press it. dropping the front subframe by 1/2" and twisting the box by 45 ish degrees anti clock wise looking towards the back of the car makes it so much easier.

i have taken my gearbox off twice now both time using 4 halfords car ramps, and two trolley jacks :)

time consuming job but easy enough.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, I'm 9 stone piss wet through on horse back, and I can do it with one hand....
