I'm not asking for advice on exhausts, can't afford to do anything about it right now and the whole system is in perfect condition, although a bit of a universal DIY jigsaw.

It's more of a general rant. lol

The general loudness is becoming annoying, I mean its REALLY loud! It's almost like there is no exhaust attached. Its de-catted, though there are some DIY pre-silencers to the rear, but I think these are straight though pipes. At the rear I have two (what I think are universal) back boxes with huge outlets. They look nice, real nice, though massive you can get your fist in there.

Flooring it on a motorway sounds beastly, and I like the burble I sometimes hear on slowing down. Driving around normal roads is the problem. I mean people hear me coming way before they can see me! First gear is the loudest, then second at about 2000 revs.

Maybe I'm getting old. I haven't let anyone else drive my Zed, so not sure how loud it is when driving, but I'm told its quieter in the car than out when driving.

I'd like to get a video up, but is it just me, am I just an old man now?! I'm 32!!

I like the sound of a nice sporty burble......

......but not when it constantly intrudes into the car whilst driving! Sure, during a burst of acceleration it makes you feel good - but the incessant drone on a long m-way journey is no fun.

And I must also be getting old as I hate to hear souped up Saxos etc revving along the public road (yet perversly I don't mind the roar or a TVR or the like!).

That's why I like my Mongoose - it's throaty enough when pulling away gently. And a little blip of the throttle at walking pace sounds purposeful; yet during normal driving it's still reasonably quiet so I can hear the radio or have a conversation.

But ignore me - I'm an old git of 41.....:1eye:

Richard:cool2:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

go on ebay and look for an 'exhaust bung' got 2 in my 4.5 inch cans, makes the car virtually silent with them in, with them out. its similar to your situation.

RichardSmith, yeah, that sounds like a perfect setup, sounds really nice. I know what you mean about Saxo's...and Corsa's...then there's this Clio around here who will eventually kill someone the way he speeds constantly around the estate...

Coolq, I like the sound of this, looking at them now. Maybe a stupid question but how does the exhaust gas escape with a bung stuck up the pipe?

It's surprising how nice a silent exhaust is you know. Dad's got a couple of soarers and they are so lush to drive! You can hear the engine at full chat but nothing through the exhaust.. it's very pleasant. I'm getting older I know but I'm starting to associate loud exhausts with poor drivers and view them as a complete nuisance so on a bit of a 50/50 if I'm going to keep mine..

Yeah, when I had a V6 Probe with a cold air induction kit fitted the engine sounded great, such a throaty roar, I would turn off the headunit to listen to it!

I'm yet to hear the engine over the exhaust in my Zed. So hopefully a nice surprise awaits!

too old? at 32? dont try and make me feel older than i am lol, im 32 at the moment, soon to be 33

I like a mid range sounding exhaust. not too loud but lets people know its a sports car. though i love the look and sound of the kakimari/kakimoto? (spelling?) one, omg. gimmi gimmi gimmi lol

i dont think its dop do with age really just common sense.im only 25 and mines a bit moany too me, i have a new one coming tho which will hopefully be slightly quiter have less holes in it and have less of a motorway drone.i too hate saxos and corsa with big bores its just queer. it is not a sports car it sounds like a fart why make that more obvious!

I like the sound of a good engine/exhaust combo. Putting a big exhaust on a puny little engine (e.g. Saxos, Puntos, Corsas etc.) sounds bloody awful, but if you've got a nice sized proper engine (like a v6 or a v8 or something) then you can't beat it. Not too loud but loud enough :D

And I've just turned 35 ;)

One engine I can't stand the sound of is bloody Subarus - and there's hundreds of them round here :censored:

That's what I got, the single exit Kaki with Kaki 3" test pipes. Sounds very nice for the Z.

Im getting a bit bored with mine aswell. but my old man says it sounds spot on and suites the car very well, at about 3k rpm sounds like a v12 Austin Martin :)

Here is a crappy little vid done a few years back before the decats lol!!!!

I would like a mongoose one but the tips are a tad small for my car.

Well I am 65, I don,t think age comes into it, you either love the sound , especially when its on full chat, or hate it, lol

I had Mongoose set up, toooooooooo quite for me, so now have 2 Kakimoto cans, plus decat ,and straight through pipes,,,,,,,,,,,,AWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOME, LUVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV IT , lol

LOL, Yeah, I'll try at the weekend, plus it will be interesting to see how loud it is as a bystander. :donatello:

bring it on! decatted, custom exhaust with no silencers and then twin 4.5" tips! mine is very loud... too loud to be honest, had a 2 hr drive with the tops off and it did get a bit tiresome.

might swap it for a slightly quieter one in the future, have to see how the summer goes!
