General consenus feeling really. Is it ok to ram 18 billion watts worth of eletrical hardware into your zed? or does the car lend itself to a more subtle approach that doesnt require so much stuff. IS it rice to ice in your opinion :D

my opinion is the zed is focused enough to not need a stero at all. my previous car didnt the pur of the engine and lack of stero made it thjat more special to drive.

I love music, and through good quality speakers.

But i cant stand over the top stuff, you cant listen to it that loud!

I'm not a fan of big ICE setups in cars, for me as long as the quality of the sound is perfect then I'm happy.

deffo needs icing!!!! the stereo systems 20 years ago are terrible and the speakers are probably worn out and ripped!!! do it, but subtle, a good bit of sound proofing material is the way forward aswell

doesnt do anything at all for me. my ice consists of a dvd player, ipod adapter and some aftermarket speakers in the front and rare bose speakers and enclosures in the rear. got some component things on the rear panels but god knows what they do?

You can easy have a very good sounds system just but changing the speakers and head unit. This day and age you dont need a huge sub in the back...

imo :

Decent headunit. Some quality Components in the front and possibly a descreet 8/10" Sub with amp for the boot in a custom shaped or stealthed enclosure is as far as I would go.

Quality, over quantitiy.

Its a High performance Sports car, that should not be weighed down by filling up with spakers, amps and subwoofers. Leave that to the McDonalds car park chavs.

My thoughts as well.....

......replace the speakers with some new/good quality items and get a decent head unit. You can still make use of the stock amp for the rears if you want - and unless you're a banging base-head ICE freak, that will suffice!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

have you got any details of that Richard? The speakers I've just fitted are good but just feel they need some more ooomph and was thinking maybe an amp would be the way to go. Is it the small round silver clarion amp you refer to?

Yeah, the one in the boot next to the abs pump.

ahhh.. don't suppose you know how it wires in? :whistling: thought they had a multiplug on?

Not sure bud, I just used an ISO lead on the original plug and connected the headunit to it.

I believe that's the one!

I haven't actually seen it - although when I wired in my new head unit, I did have to splice the amp's live feed into the live accessory connection. I had bought the Autoleads adaptor but there was no connection for the amp's power supply.

It works fine for me - the rear speakers have that extra oomph now, even with the fader at 50/50.

ahhh pish.. I'll have to have a look see if I can wire it back in. Had to cut and crimp all the cables to the back of the head unit, so might have to get an aftermarket one. thanks for the heads up though, would save some money if I could use the standard one! :thumbup1:

Yup - especially as there's nowt wrong with it! If you have it there you may as well make use of it mate!

replacing the head unit and the rear speakers with some new cones does make a massive difference, but the standard 6x4s have no bass at all!

i think a subtle boot build with a 8" would be perfect.

Personally I don't think you can beat driving a Zed on a glorious day with your fave tunes playing through a properly sorted stereo install.

As already said, get yorself a good quality headunit and spend as much as you can on quality components for the front. You don't go to a concert and stand with your back to the stage after all.

If you want to go further uprate your rears for 'infill' sound, then amp your fronts. For most this will be adequate.

The way to get better sound is to let each speaker do the job it's intended for, they aren't a jack of all trades. So let the tweeters handle the highs and fit a sub to handle the lows (also amped). This doesn't need to take up the whole boot and isn't about letting everyone you pass know what you're listening to. It is to achieve a clear and detailed sound.

That's as far as i've gone but fair play to those that take it further and make a real feature of it. "I'm lovin' it"!!
