Well, ive just failed my MOT... nothing bad really, just need to do some welding on the quarterpanels and sills and stuff, standard affair really...

However, since this will push the total bill since i got the car to around £5000 (£3k car, then £400 tyres, £600 clutch, £300 misc bits and bobs, then £700 welding repair) im feeling a little skint and sorry for myself.

So... as a bit of a group sympathy session, does anyone have any horror stories about sizeable chunks of wonga consumed by your zeds? Anyone spent a whole lot more than me and still going strong?

but then again... if you had 4 grand... which would you buy? This...

i've spent well over 30k on mine, blew the engine last year due to oil surge. now iv'e got a budget figure of around 10k to get the old girl how i want her.

4000 pound is brakes and roll cage

5000 pound is engine and drive train

the rest will be body and interior

hope that makes you feel better :D

Silver Zed, spent £4k buying and about £10k doing it up, reparing and running it over 18 months.

Tis not a cheap hobby this Zed milarky lol

Ive just added up the receipts that I still have and they hit just under £21k over the near 8 years Ive owner her. add to that missing receipts and (cough) cash, and I reckon I've spent £27k+ repairing and modifying my Z. and I wouldn't change any of it for the world!!!

Cheap zeds do not exist, in the main paying a little more when purchasing one will often pay dividens later, having said that have seen the odd sub £2k ones that turn out to be a little gem, its part of owning a zed or any other performance car really, but we still all love them!

Really do think I got the bargain of the century.........

fingers crossed nothing bad happens to mine already got a minibus that needs work plus 4 kids and a nagging wife !

£1300 for a car that allegedly had £7K spent on it before I bought it, although very few receipts with it. Engine replaced with a 70,000 mile engine, all well and good, apart from the fact that the monkeys who fitted it broke most of the engine while doing so, threaded and stripped bolts, unconnected pipes, busted plenum, all Lambda sensors cut etc etc etc.

So far I've spent:

£340ish on 2 rear tyres

£100 Mines ECU

£160 to get rocker cover gaskets replaced, reversing switch that can't be installed yet and a new starter motor fitted

£60 for the oil and rocker cover gaskets themselves

£40 for the starter motor

£30 for the replacement plenum (Yet to be fitted)

£90 on two sets of plugs because it isn't running properly

Still to do;

Replace sills

Replace plenum

Replace top engine harness

Replace front tyres when they are a bit more worn

Replace plugs again for more expensive platinum ones

Replace Tailgate

Invest in boost controller and Turbo Timer

Invest in Rolling Road setup to get car setup properly

Full re-spray required

Wish list:

Polished and powder coat engine parts, such as plenum, hard piping etc

FMIC

Dump Valves to replace re-circs

Replace exhaust with better sounding one

Replace or modify front bumber

Really do think I got the bargain of the century.........

Without a doubt, I would have the "or this"...............

had mine about 4 and a half years cost 8k when i bought it and spent about 16 to 18 grand on it since then. thats new engine, paint job, ice, tyres ect ect

bought mine last july £2500 and since spent £6k on it, albeit mostly on modificartions and maintenance. Have about another 3-5k to spend before im satisfied if there is such i thing.. lol

so heres a good idea so we know who to hate. who has had the cheapest longest running without expensive issue zed? there must be someone out there who spent less than a grand and has had it three years and only had to change the oil and tyres

Not likely, unless it was someone who bought a Z from someone on here who had already spent the thousands on it and then simply got bored. lol

I purchased mine in November of last year, been to NEC once MPH and Top Gear Live and Zedworld twice in it, first for the Zedworld bash, then last Friday for MOT and stereo fitting. I paid £1,200 for the car, and it only needed 2 driveshaft gaitors, and advisory two front tyres, Passed after Jeff and Jamie fitted new driveshaft gaitors. Jamie told me the MOT examiner commented on the condition of it for a 22 year old, and Jamie stated that it was pristine everywhere. I was sooooo happpppy. Thanks again to Jeff and Jamie from Zedworld for a wonderful job.........:thumbup1:
