Insurance companies really do take the biscuit sometimes, dealt with a customers request for a bronze replacement windscreen for an import zed.

The owner had through their insurer been directed to the approved windscreen company for a replacement, unfortunately they only had blue glass in stock and wanted to fit that, but the owner rejected the idea in favour of the correct bronze glass.

The windscreen company made enquiries about the correct screen from Nissan, best part of £800 and 4 weeks back order to boot!! but no bother a month wait to get the correct part is no biggy. However the windscreen company required authorisation for the more expensive windscreen ( blue ones are around £200) and this is the rub, the insurance company are refusing to pay for the correct part and are trying to force the owner to accept the incorrect coloured glass.

Now when insuring a zed insurance companies in general charge more for imports due to “different parts” been fitted ?? now for my money to take the extra loading and then refuse to pay out for the “different parts” is akin to taking money by deception, wrong just wrong, I have advised to hold tight and insist on the correct glass...what do you think?

i would fight for the right glass, if i have paid more for the insurance i would want to claim for the right parts

I think th insurance companies will have your money and keep hold of it any way they can - and your advice is spot on - we pay a premium to insure our Zeds esp the imports, so they can pay for the correct parts, the theiving gits!

Hold out for the correct glass, insurance companies get away with far too much as it is, they are quick to take your money, but then don't want to pay out when things go wrong.........:excl:

I agree too.....

.....failing that, I'd agree fit the Uk spec screen. And then charge the insurers to replace all the other glass in the car so that it matches!!

Richard:death:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i agree push for it my zed had the screen replaced before i brought it, and all the windows are bronze except the blue screen and it bugs me.

Doesn't help when you have places like Autoglass charging £800 for the blue glass (that's the price they quoted me) and £400 of that price was for the side trim? needless to say i went else where when i got the windscreen replaced.

Annoyingly that windscreen is still on my black zed, having seen just 26 road miles and unless i can get it off in one piece to sell, its going to the scrap yard with the rest of the car.

But yeah, hold out for the bronze one, They should be paying for the correct part, just because its a bit of glass, doesn't mean they should skimp on doing the correct thing. id even threaten legal action. get him to get a solicitor to type a nice letter explaining that the jap zeds have bronze and the UK have the blue, it is a jap car and needs the correct glass, or they are devaluing his vehicle by putting the incorrect part on it.

I 100% agree with all of this and the bold part above is the best line id be saying to them!! id have sleepless nights over that.

Maybe thats why they are in administration, with those prices your bound to go elsewhere.

They wanted to go through the insurance company, but i said no, i had the funds and just wanted the glass replaced and they come up with that figure. i was like :confused1: you have got to be kidding, id already been quoted £250 from somewhere else.

I got the blue one for £215 all in eventually and they came and fitted it.

I had the same problem last year and they tried every way possible to get out of it. in the end thye came up with a crazy quote for nearly 5k to replace both front and back screens. They then tried writing the zed off. I told them to shove it and bought 2nd hnad screens for about 60 quid in the end.

Jeffs on the money IMO, they should replace with the correct OEM part or take them to the insurance ombudsman if they refuse. They want it all their own way and IMO this case would be a clear cut bad practice on their part.

BTW Are all imports bronze tint ? I thought mine looked just smoked ?

My experience is all in this thread and Jeff please pass the details onto your customer

I am very happy but as in post 30 I do not have an OEM screen, did not notice at the time of fitting and was never informed that it was not OEM at all during all the liaising, I think though to expect a Nissan one after all these years could be a bit much :mad2: it is not a 2008 plate Ford Fiesta screen we are after here but the insurers should not offer replacement if they cannot or will not honour, could be there databases need a tweak to take into account where some screens on cars like ours are difficult and pricey to get hold of :cool3:
