I know its regularly bee changed with 10/40 semi synthetic, I think it was magnatec, and you know how well it runs on that!

I always asumed a 5/30 was more for the winter months when the oil needs to be thinner due to the cold???

if it was me id go 10/40 again

as for the auto fluid there pretty much the same so doesnt really matter.

Hi Craig,

Was ment to ask this yesterday, When I was driving back from reading the steering wheel was of centre but was driving fine so didnt think anything of it, but whenever I have to take a sharp right turn it sounds as tho something on the front passenger side is wobleing. could it be a bush or something?

I know this sounds stupid BUT just check the wheel nuts, now our cars are getting older strange thigs are begining to happen.

Quite a few here including myself have had wheel nuts loosen due to the threads streaching on the stud.

99% it wont be this but it does occure.

i use silkolene pro s 10w 50 for me engine and oilman sorted some silkolene for me to do the diff and gearbox will have a look later see what it was.

dan.

i only ever use Millers CSS fully synthetic in my engine i know others rate it highly as well

For a twin turbo 300zx a "30" rated oil is just too thin considering the temperatures encountered under the bonnet!

Stick with a minimum "40" viscocity mate.

Nissan recommends a 10w40 semi synthetic but personally I'd pick a fully synthetic just because technology has moved on since 1990! Any decent 5w40 synthetic oil will be fine - I currently use Shell Helix Ultra. The 5w30 oils are more for todays modern engines.

Remember the "w" is just a reflection of the oil's ability to circulate from cold and not an indication of oil viscocity once fully warm - ie 0w40, 5w40 and 10w40 are exactly the same once up to full temp!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Great answer. Set out nicely and based on facts. And will cover the vast majority of the cars/engines on this forum.

Brand is of little importance so long as its a known quality brand.

Different people will have different brand preferences

Hi gruntpa64,

Never thought of checking this, ill look this weekend, still driving round in my passat for now.

I can only repeat what I have read while deciding on oil for my N/A, but I did see mention that its not a good idea to use 5w in TT's ....
