very bad, and getting worse.

180-200 ish to a full tank 70-75 quid

put £25 in yesterday on a motorway run and only managed 62 miles.

engine mods

EGR delete

AIV delete

water bypass

wiseco pistons

eagle rods

cometec head gasket (not spelt correctly)

unprated valve springs ( cannot remember correct terminology)

tried both standard and t28 turbos. (no difference in economy)

front mount intercooler,

hard pipes.

full turbo back exhuast system

boost controller, set at 7psi (during cold months)

ECU chip. tried Zworld and John dixon. (no change)

stock and 555 injectors. (no change in economy)

standard cams

lightweight flywheel

RPS clutch

nothing to major really.

well, thats about what i get too lol, and my engone is standard apart from the air filter. on average im getting about 16 mpg with mixed driving

motor way - 25 to 27 Miles per gallon

Around town - 14 to 16 Miles per gallon

Holding on for dear life - 7 - 8 Miles per gallon

That's me. sounds about right for these cars, they are not the most fuel efficient engines to be perfectly honest, but damn are they fun.

This excessive fuel use is certainly getting frustrating, as coolq mentioned all of the "normal" issues that can cause this have been covered, the last we checked the tick over fueling was ok but at 2k revs it went horrendously rich at almost 12.5 on the Co bearing in mind this without any load, we suspected the chip and tested it for one of ours FOC and that brought it down by a big margin and also reduced the horrid smell / odour the exhausts give off, kind of sickly throat stinging. Seen this previously with bad camshaft/valve timing but again all of this has been checked...very bizzare.

The pic below is the last one we ended up with ignore the red sector decat and 02 sensors not connected, the previous chip had it running wildly high, sadly lost link for pic of this.

So why the apparent excessive fuel now??? just thinking about the car itself now coolq, brakes dragging, diff issues?? strange one for sure.

just an N/a wif a airfilter and a heavy shoe sumtimes

sounds daft I know, but a worn therefore dragging/sticking throttle cable can be fuel expensive.

who changes them for new????

Yeah, I'm currently experimenting.

£20 normal unleaded gets me about 50 miles town driving, with the odd free run when there is no traffic...

Least night I put £22 V Power in, so about 16 litres again. We'll see if it makes a difference. Acceleration felt much better with V Power.

50 miles to £20 seems average, though I'm NA, not TT...so maybe should have bought a turbo!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I get around 16mpg in town, and 25-28 on the motorway in my NA.

The town figure is expected but I would have hoped for nearer 30 on the motorway at a sensible speed.

I think the main reason is that the gearing is not high enough, especially in 5th.

It's doing 3000rpm at 70mph. My E-class used to do 2500rpm at that speed and my Jag runs at 2200rpm (which for a 2.5 is very low but that's probably due to the 6th gear. Mind you, it hasn't translated in to the expected great mpg...only 31!).

If only there was some way of making 5th gear higher...

I'm sure I've managed 140 miles on 35 quid at about 110 p/l not going over 2k rpm mind but I've also done a tenner in 3 miles...

there is... bigger rolling radius(wheel size). easy!

i put £30 in and i average 129-130 km but every boy racer passes me,and they think they have a better car lol

I know you converted to miles in the next post but I am just reaching your 130 figure and I DO mean Miles, on £30 worth. loads of town stuff included. short journeys and full warm-up before driving:confused1: wish I could help you.

maybe your car is a little tight and engine needs running in some more :whistling:
