Hello everyone ive spent soooooo much money on my 1991 non turbo its a real beaut but the gearbox has gone an id like to purchase a good working order one.

 

problem is it drives in 1 and 2 but when i put it into D it just revs, the dip stick is brown and smells burnt??:

Welcome to the club mate. Your best bet would be to put this in the wanted section.

BUT have you changed your fluid first and cleaned the filter in the sump yet? MIght be worth trying first - could save you a few quid?

 

What you are describing happoned to my box, and the filter was all clogged i managed to get a few more miles out of it by swapping the fluid and cleaning up filter.

 

There is a step by step guide on one of the sites, i'll find it and post a link if you want.

Seriously mate, try the fluid swap and clean out the filter... yours sounds like it is doing exactly what mine was. I got a good few extra months of use before i bit the bullet and went manual.

 

Also for the sort of money they are talking about you can get a manual conversion done by a Zed specialist not too far from you.

Change the fluid bud, it will make a big difference, then change it again a few hundred miles later as when changing you don't drain it all put due to torque converter
