Looks pretty tidy but dont know if its TT or NA?! says its 280bhp and got a TT front bumper, but dials look a bit bare? not seen many NAs in detail lol :saddam:

Ok its got some chavtastic stickers going on but they can soon come off. :euro:

looks like NA to me no boost gauge and no mention of a turbo you would mention it if you had 2 :)

thats not the end of the world when you have two spare TT engines ;)

What is wrong with your shell mate? :(

+1??

Im sure I recognise that number plate from somwhere.

S4+ cars (so late 94 plus) didnt have a boost gauge (up until 99 spec when I think they go it back?) So that could explain why IF its a TT its got no boost gauge...

However a few things date that as a series 1 car, first being that there doesnt appear to be a seatbelt on the B pillar. At that angle you would be able to see it I think. (Hence S1 with seatbelt on the door its self)

Also it has an 89 spec spoiler on the back.. and the wrong badge. To me its an auto NA thats had a bump at somepoint and a TT front bumper fitted.

Not a huge issue as you have all the bits, I believe was it midwaleszx did it? (to your old car if memory serves?!?!) after it got binned he reshelled the TT into an NA, im sure it was a ball ache!

looks like a good starting point for a project Baz.

Just go and look at it. Make sure its straight and not rusty.

At the end of the day thats all you need.

IMO.

The main reason I'm looking to change is that I'm bored of white / would prefer grey or black. I plan to keep the Z indefinately and my UK model has rust blebs on the arches and rear panel, I darent look at the sills although they may be ok. Alright so in an ideal world I'd get the bodywork sorted and a professional respray, but for me personally a swap over project is more down my street.

Quavey - good memory on the previous NA>TT conversion, it was a welshman lol but was the user 'Z32'.

My first Z was grey and I love the colour, this one looks nice and tidy and despite looking like a bit of a throw-together of an NA and TT if its straight enough with no rust to contend with then it may be on the cards later this week. maybe lol.

why don`t you do a tt conversion on a vert ,i`ve got a blue one that might be up for sale in the next 3-4 mths

It says it a 1991 hence would have a boost gauge if it was a TT

I don't get this..

You're not even sure about the condition of your car, but you're prepared to buy another (potentially bent) shell to swap everything into? Sounds like a fine way of turning a small job into a massive one (do you know my missus?).

If you really wanna strip your car down and build it back up again, then fine - I don't have an issue with that. You must have way too much time on your hands!:whistling:

But if you just wanna get the bodywork minted, then at least seek professional advice (or at least do a proper assessment) first. Having the car at a body shop for a few weeks would be bad enough for me, but to have 2 cars in bits for an indefinite period of time is crazy. Sell yours and buy a minter IMO.

But what do I know - I'm scared of spanners

Cant believe it thats my old car owned it about 12 yrs ago maybe more, its an na and was mint when i had it and had a cloth interior and nice alloys ,funny i was chuffed the other day when i found an old photo of it.

Baz i reckon you should buy the shorty ive got coming when ive fixed it up and then you can have the white one and then turn the shorty into a TT with the amount of spares you have in the garage :)

You're right mate - in the interior pic, you can just see the hole in the door card where the door mounted seat belt is fixed at the bottom - check left side of the pic, about 1/3 up from bottom!!

Also as Gonzo says, the add states it's a 1991 so without the boost guage it must be an n/a....

The car is in Chesham which is about 3-4 miles from me. I can check it out at the weekend for you Baz, if you're seriously interested in it - it might save you a trip if it's shite.....

Richard:cool3:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Funny i bought it at Worldwide Motors who imported it but it had already owned for a while by a guy who put wifes initials on the plate before i bought it .I ordered a tt from Japan but got so fed up of waiting for it i did a deal with Worldwide and had a gto tt,that car is the reason i have another one all these years later i loved it .

Would absolutely love to John but it'll not be in my budget :(

Richard - thanks for offering to go have a look for me, would save me a long trip! I will let you know depending how this thread turns out lol.

Leo - I got my Z and took the engine out straight away to change a turbo, had it all in bits at some point, painted it etc etc. I'm not scared of a bit of work :1eye:

I know some of you dont understand, I dont expect you to, but as I say - in my world this is a better way round it, fit the best bits and have one decent zed and break up/sell the remainder.

Last year was a learning curve for me and got the Z all ready myself, turned it from a multicoloured tired looking old red Z to something that i was happy putting on the stand at shows. this year its time for think long term ready for the Z that'll be with me for the forseeable future.

Might hold out and see what pops up on ebay/autotrader/PH in the next few weeks.

My first Z was grey and I love the colour

Good to know another Pearl grey lover!:cool3:

My first one was pearl grey, lovely colour :cool3:

From memory Chris bumped his black TT and transfered everything to a NA so is probably his old one.

I`m sure you will find something Baz, the Vert tt sounds interesting???

i understand what you are saying mate.

a few years ago i bought the best zed i could afford, a typical 1500 quid ebay tt auto 2 + 2, it was a bit scruffy but basically sound. over the next year i did lots of odds and sods to sort out a few running issues and bought the bits for a manual conversion.

last xmas i decided doing a bit of an overhaul and to fit the manual box, took engine out etc and found it had a bent chassis leg:mad2:

it took me quite a while to decide what to do but in the end a rolling shell turned up at the right price, its a swb targa which was a manual tt from the factory, exactly what i had always wanted from the start.

im now halfway through a full on nut and bolt restoration which i hope will be better than when it left the factory. i would have never been able to afford the car i hope to end up with.

i know i have been able to do all the work myself and the long rebuild time has given me a chance to pick up all the bits i want at the right time but it sounds like you are able to do stuff yourself too.

basically i think the point i am trying to make is that if you have the commitment to see it through then this is a great route to get the car you want, just make sure that the shell is the right one for you, a tt shell is a much easier option to start with unless you like chopping and welding and a good shell should be easy to come by if you are patient with the amount that are being broken at the moment. see my rebuild thread if you want some inspiration.
