Manual - Notchy /crunchy in the morning, just me?

Hey,

When my car is cold in the morning, I find putting it in second (sometimes third) notchy and there is a noticeable crunch.

I fitted a new master clutch cylinder a few weeks back and wonder if it needs adjusting at the pedal.

Just wondered if its normal to have a notchy / crunchy gearbox until in warms up?

First signs of weakening synchromesh . Common in boxes of this age . Colder and hence thicker oil accentuates the problem. When oil warms up it thins down and the problem is reduced.

Using a thinner high shear oil will help for a time . MT90 or similar but it doesnt "cure" the core problem of wear in the box.

Not related to clutch hydraulics. (IMO)

mine used to be like that. did all new clutch fluid and a gear oil change and it has been silky smooth for the past 3 years

Thanks all, I think I'll try the oil option and see what happens, but yeah it isn't cheap! Nothing ever is though!! :(

Is it easy to change the gearbox oil? I've only done it once, on a Probe and had to use a long tube and a funnel to refill it.
