anyone got any other ideas what it does or have a look at your ignition to see how it fits?

I am taking the ignition apart today so will post any findings for you. I have a manual so it may not be the same if you have an auto.

just a guess from looking at it, could it be from the auto shifter, as I'm sure when mine was an auto, you couldn't take the key out of the barrel unless it was in park, it could well go from the shifter to the solenoid on the barrell, only an educated guess tho matey...

I have two here, one is to go in the indicator stalk on the Jspec and this controls those kerb lights when indicating, the other though - haven't got a clue :confused1:

sorted! thanks for steering me in the right direction, once i laid the connector out along the steering rack after some digging around i found the other half tucked away, and you are right Tudor the key could come out in any position.
