We are hitting £129.9 a litre in some areas now and soon we will be faced with paying £1.50 per litre. So Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign' that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS - not sellers control the market place. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one) i.e. ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If all of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)....and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on. By the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all (and not buy at ESSO/BP). How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. Boycott BP and Esso

I don't think this would work, as all of the large supermarket chains purchase their petrol from whoever is the cheapest at the time of purchase, so one could still be buying B.P. or Esso and wouldn't know it.

It isn't so much the issue of petrol prices, it is the amount of tax that our governments add on that hikes up the price of petrol in the UK, it is not the petrol producers we need to hurt in their pockets, it is the governmet and the amount of revenue the government makes out of their taxation on fuel that needs to be looked at, and then find a way to boycott this taxation impossed by the government. It is a misconception that it is the petrol companies that need to reduce their prices, as oil prices at the moment are quite low..........:detective:

Not with it going past $100/barrel it's not !

The year 2008 saw the American economy topple over like a towering stack of light weight cards with the financial and market crash. The recession changed the economy of the country and left many people without jobs and means to sustain their families. More houses were put on foreclosure than ever before, leaving an even larger number of families homeless and destitute with no one to bank on. The initial contention was that the primary reasons for the recession that hit the country in 2008 was the downfall of the financial services market and the housing market. More and more financial experts came forward with another, more accurate reason for the financial crash. The reason put forward and accepted widely was that the market financial crash was caused by the high oil price rise which shot to an all time high of $147 per barrel in the year 2008.

If oil goes past $147 per barrel, it will then be expensive, I was mearly stating that compared with the all time high of oil prices, that the price is still quite low.

As I stated in my reply, it's not really the price of the fuel that is an issue, it is the tax the government throws on top, and it's even more now that VAT has risen from 17.5% to 20%.

Sorry if I offended you.........:confused1:

Same emails been doing the rounds for yours. Wont ever happen.

I agree, I have a Tesco express just up the road from me, the next petrol station is then around 2 miles away, couldn't see myself driving another couple of miles to the Asda just because Tesco sell Esso, and the Asda petrol might be Esso anyhow.

I think most people will be the same, I don't really think about what brand petrol is going into my car, more over, I just put petrol in when the car needs it, could be anywhere or any petrol.

I am so against how much the government takes as their cut in tax from petrol, but as I say, we need to find a way to hit the government in the pocket and not the oil producers.

What the government bank on, although they say to stop using cars and use public transport, is that people will continue to use their cars because they would lose a fortune in tax if people didn't, and the public transport system would never cope with the increase in demand put on it. Unfortunately due to public transport not being up to the job and the sheer inconvienience of using public transport is the exact reason why people won't stop using their cars.

That's why, in the last fuel protests, they made it ilegal to stop a fuel tanker or block the gates of a petrol distribution centre, it wasn't because the whole country almost came to a standstill, it was because they were losing millions per day in fuel duty..........:2guns:......all the government.......lol

nice theory but we don't have anywhere near 300 million people in the uk, let alone 300 million motorists

on the topic of petrol prices, anyone got much sympathy for this guy?

ttp://uk.cars.yahoo.com/17012011/36/pound-192-tank-petrol-0.html

won`t make much difference as the goverment take 60% approx in tax if the oil companies ruduce prices sure as i`m breathing goverment will tax more i feel for lorry firm and small buisines who have to use their vechicles my fuel bill is bad enough in my van let alone taking the Z out .

if i had the ability, the team, and the golden balls to do it, i would raid the petrol stations. that will teach them to make so much profit from us. seriously they make BILLIONS of dollars of profit every year and they complain when profit is down by 0.4% !!!!!!!

load of shite....its not the petrol companys getting the cats share of the cream its the goverment...and anyway peoples lives are getting that frantic these days just putting a loaf on the table they arn't going to distrubt there surplys of vital fuel to get to work atm, they cut costs elsewhere like luxury goods. Its number 10 with the big black door that should be getting the shit not the forcourts as its out of there hands

i thought that the gov take 75% as tax and the petrol stations only make a silly 25% from it?

they wish mate..they make pennies on the pound selling petrol thats why they all sell food and stuff now

the first post looks like one of those "send to 10 friends or you will have bad luck for 20 years" lol

Quite right..... The petrol stations do not make much at all, that's why if a big cat offers to buy the land it is sitting on, most sell it because it is more profit than they will ever make selling petrol. How many petrol stations have shut down near you all, it was on TV a little while ago, I can't remember where it was now, but, there was a place that had a fair few petrol stations, and they all sold to property developers, while the people of the town had to travel some distance to find a petrol station in the next town, it's crazy,,,,,just like the 60% tax taken by the government......

We used to have within a 2 mile radius of our house, 5 petrol stations, we now have 2, the rest have become other things, sheltred accomodation for the elderly, house, and car sales unit.

yea over here on the wirral more than half of the stations have been sold and biult on in last 5 years mate

so a petrol station makes a few pence for every pound where as the gov get a shite load more than them from there product. yet a company like bp make record profits of billions each year. so just how much is the gov bloody making and where the hell does all this money go along with the road tax money? all the roads are shit so we defo dont get what we pay for there. it must go somewhere?

its paying just the intrest on loans taken out by mr Browns red neck party not long departed mate which happens to be at a much higher intrest rate than most countrys as we have no reserve bonds to back it up....kinda like borrowing 100k and using a 10 used condoms as collateral for the money:no:

You will probably find it's going on a war that we can't ever win.....:surrender:

That's it mate, if nothing is done, there will be no petrol stations for us to fill up in, so the government will be out of pocket!!! Why not make the profit on petrol fairer for the petrol stations, and reduce the tax taken, everybody happy, job done......

A mass protest has to be something that can feasibly be done by everyone and that will, in a short time achieve the requirement.

The council tax is paid by virtually all households. So, if ALL households refuse to pay the council tax it woul dbe huge. Councils could not take every household to court. The Government would have to listen and reduce taxation on fuel and put it more evenly/fairer across other things.

Much higher taxation on bank profits, bankers salaries and bonuses, and a cap on the banks retribution would be a start!

Don't forget though, the oil company's profits aren't only from the sale of petrol.

It is from the sale of the oil that is needed in lots of different products such as shampoo, washing powder, soap, most house cleaning products, car wash products, machine oils.....the list is endless, it's not just profit from petrol....

it was tried with the poll tax and to a certain extent created its point by a back down by the gov..mind due people sufferd by getting jail and losing there goods to bailifs at the time

Too right, that would work. :thumbup1:
