NOT MINE!! Copied this out of my thread for a new member (BLACKHAWK300) as he is having problems and I haven't got a clue.

hi,anybody like to try and help with this not so quick fix??? 1990 tt auto,sluggish holds back then stalls, smells of fuel, the tappets started to rattle got into work lifted the bonnet and smoke everywhere,i reved the car the smoke out the back was going between black and grey with a back fire....that was about 2 ish finished work about 8hrs later thinking it aint going to start, fired straight up drove like 4 miles into my 8 mile dive home it started to rattle a bit i left a bmw of the lights like there was nothing wrong with it...im confused, any help would be great thanks......

lol it rattled so they put there foot down harder to burn off a bmw at the lights!! problem solved it the driver!!

 

joking aside... when they lifted the bonnet was it smoke or steam? the answer to this would help lots in solving the issue!!

hi, it was smoke, and a lot,its done less than 50,000 miles doesn't burn oil,been problem free for 5 years,i think the rattle is pre ignition pinking? as for the smoke???thanks for your time..

because i was taking it easy on the way home after what happend on the way to work,i was in a 50 limit not quite doing that,this bmw driver flew past me ,so when i met him at the lights i moved over to the other lane and thought to myself, would you like to try and do that again?so when they hit green i said goodbye to him....only reason for that is on june the 8th i was going home on my r1 when a bmw pulled out of a junction on me and i plowed into him.he put me off work for 4 months and wrote my bike off,hence the reason for the lights......i know i shouldnt have done it, but i saw red.....: (

Where was smoke coming from? Back right or back left? Coul be a turbo leaking oil onto the down pipes? The rattle is not good maybe get timing checked ! Need to take it to a good zed mechanic to be honest it's a bit hard to diagnose with out seeing or hearing it! But someone else might be better educated than me in this area to help on here .

my son took the z to his garage and its the E C T sensor. it was running cold so the ecu was giving it more fuel,hence the smell and lumpy running...taken it out and running fine,so i will fit a new one and see wot happens and let you know for future reference ,cheers
