Ok, so I was under my dashboard today, drivers side and discovered a couple of bare wires, one was red (and maybe white too) but small. The other was yellow and quite a thick one, also bare (this one is my main concern!).

I also found a plug and socket, these don't look like they'll fit together, but the wire on the plug isn't long enough to reach.

I know its a long shot, but if anyone knows if these should be connected (and to what) please let me know! :)

Cheers!

yellow one looks like a previous fog light conversion, have a look at the back of your rear light clusters (drivers side first) i bet the wire goes there

No sign of the yellow at the rear, but I imagine you might be right as there is a hole where a switch used to be.

Well, if I find something not working then I'll know where to look first.

I think the car has had a hands free kit fitted (and removed) at some point, so it might be something to do with that.

You dont have a turbo timer do you? It looks like the cable that goes to your handbrake.

i reckon that could have been a feed for a boot mounted amp . its the obvious route for a cable to the back down past the bonnet pull and along the door trimmer . i bet if you take the carpet strip off that cable runs along the side of the carpet and into the boot.

Well, I'd say its thick enough. I do need to go on a search, for this an other reasons. My rear speakers don't seem to do anything though appeared to be wired up when I pulled out the headunit that came with the car. An adaptor hasn't been used, its all 'hard wired' in. I can sort it out, just a pain...

It's weird, I, for some reason, get a kick out of working out the mysteries of the cars past and making it right. Once I've had a car a year I normally know every square inch/cm.

Sometimes you have to wonder though...

thats the thing with seemingly spare wires . you never know who or how previous owners have gone about connecting things . as a first step i,d put a 12 volt lamp on it to make sure its not live . if it is tape it up before you start tracing where it goes . my guess though is its an old feed for part of a sound system thats been deleted and just cut or disconnected .

the yellow one does look quite thick so possibly could have been the main power feed . the smaller cable could have been the remote power as that only needs to be low ampage . its all guess work but a little bit of ferreting about and all should become clear .

Oh believe me, the ferreting has begun, but will officially begin soon. I love digging around. Only today I discovered the rear seat partially folds down, but also that the passenger foot-well is made of wood!?!

None of this was half as exciting as discovering my wing-mirrors fold in! :) I was very excited when that happened. lol

behind that wood is the engine ecu and all manner of electrical goodies

did you manage to source what the wires were under your dash

Not really mate. I had a quick dig around the boot for the yellow one but didn't really have any luck, but wasn't looking properly to be honest. I need to empty the boot out, so many wheel braces and sockets...tools, but nothing to get the bloody wheels off! LOL

I had some wiper issues (driver arm popped out of the socket), so spent time sorting that, then give her a proper hoover and wash, did the upholstery too. All smells good and feels like my car now!
