I've been meaning to ask this for ages...the mad japanese bloke that had my car made 2 patches to the wiring.. one connecting the HICAS solnoid to the ECU and one from a black box(?) to a connector in passenger compartment. If you know your 300s like the back of your hand, could you have a look at these pics and see if you can work out what the hell he was up to:

be warned.. the pics are big, so page is about 2.5Megs, so make a cup of tea while it loads :-)

Hi Stu,

I've checked my service manual - as far as I can tell, the black box is the turbo pressure sensor. As far as the patched in wires go, the photo's are very difficult to understand - the Hicas wire is not patched into the ecu - could be the hicas control unit though? These wires may have been put in to replace the wires on the original harness - broken at some point maybe?

Could do with some feedback from nico on this one......

Hope this helps a bit,

Andy

First I thought it looked like some dodgy HICAS-eliminator.

That black box is the boost-sensor for the boost-gauge

Probably one of those wires is loose/broken.

So that explains why your boost-gauge isn't working.

As far as I can see on the pictures, the thick black wire runs into the HICAS-ECU.

The grey/white is probably the one that is causing your boost-gauge problems..

I would try to put it back in the original state, but it could be that those (new) wires were put there because the old ones were already broken and this is supposed to be a fix.

cheers guys.

sorry about the photos. I tried to mark them with yellow, but I realise it's still a mess.

sounds like the gauge problems are definately down to th white/grey wire.

The hicas one is the worrying one though

1) it goes into the ECU

2) he hasn't cut the existing wire, so it's as well as whereever the original one goes to... also this is just one side of the HICAS.... was he trying to turn it off when going round roundabouts or something... weird.

thanks a lot for the help.
