supercharge?

anyone tried supercharging the n/a 300z? less plumbing that turbos faster spool and the boost is much more predictable. anyone know what psi the high compression n/a engine can handle. (yes i know the fuel supply will be the first problem but if that is upgraded how much pressure can it take?)

Not sure if its been done, but i dont think it will have been done,cause you could pick up at ttmotor for probabaly less, and if you look on a balance of how many manufactures actually supercharge engines as opposed to turbocharged engines i think youll find your answer.

 

Im sure it could be done but i dont know of anyone.

There's been a lot of discussion on TTnet (once people got past the usual "buy a TT responce)..

 

Concensus is you'd have to lose the A/C system, and get maybe 3 or 4psi boost before detonation occurrs (it's a very high compression motor remember).

 

The general concensus was it would require a lot of custom machining, and would cost more than a rebuilt, crated TT engine

It has been done and with very interesting results..around 300bhp with just 3psi of boost.

to run any higher boost you'll need an intercooler and larger injectors.

 

But as Aaron points out...it is VERY costly and you'll lose the Aircon.

It would probably be easier to buy a frontclip from a wrecked TT and swap engine/intercoolers/etc or put it on the nitrous-bottle

Just a quick question in response, and another idea for you:-

 

Why would you want to go for a force induction route??

 

I would in your shoes go for an aftermarket injection system. This would rid you of the airflow meter to start with, then get a throttle bodies so you can junk the inlet manifold so air flow will not be restricted.

 

Then have the heads fully ported, larger valves, and a set of cams. I guess the exhaust is already done if not do this as well. Now the new injection system can be fully mapped to match all the changes. These system have much faster processors, and because all the inlet restriction has been removed the car will sound, rev and go like a racing car.

 

I have seen 2.0 16V Calibras, and Vectras with the same work done running 240BHP at the flywheel. I had a Alfa 33 16V Cloverleaf with 170BHP with the same sort of setup.

 

Now the costs:-

 

ECU complete set up including wiring £2000

Heads about £250 each for the full works.

Cams depends on manufacture, but guess about £150 per cam.

 

I would budget around £3000 to be safe.

the reason i want to go forced induction is because in the long run it will lead to more power. this is going to be a weekend project car and i'm hoping to get it into the 400+ powerrange. unless ur running a very large v8 u cant do that n/a. (i'm not a big fan of nos)
