Now ive got my breaker out of the way, i started on the red zed this week.

Well, the story so far....

I bought it from a fella member on here, and its had other owners on here too.

The engine and turbos were shot.

It looked near mint in the advert, but when i went to see it i was disapointed.

It had had a full respray, but in real life, its not very good:hammer:

Other parts of the car made me walk away.

I couldn't stop thinking about it tho, so a few days later, something told me to buy it, so i did.

I thought it had some good bits on it, but after i got it home, it all seemed a bit like i'd done the wrong thing.

The wheels on closer inspection, look like they have been painted with a brush! i dont like how the spoiler sits, and the all singing all dancing alarm was a £30 ebay jobbie!

I dont want to sell it, and i fancied a project anyway, just didn't think my plans would evolve how they have!

Right, thats the end of the moaning, now the project!!

First things first, get the engine and turbos changed. I bought a pair of second hand turbos i found on ebay. Recently rebuilt, and a steal i thought at £200. Next the engine, i bought one and hired a hoist to collect it.

It must weight 3 tonne! Took 3 of us to get it in the van!

On to monday...

Im no mechanic (although i try) so i roped my mate in to helping me (he called in sick at work, good man!)

Had some bits to get off the breaker first to get it out the garage. That took a lot longer than expected, so didn't get to the red one until dark. Thought we'd just get it in the garage ready for the next morning.

Wouldn't start!!

Put it doen the the alarm fob palying up. My mate completly stripped the alarm and i still wouldn't start. It was low on fuel, so a jeery can later, still nothing! maybe the dead engine (that did drive, just smoked a misfired) has given up. Sod it, its cold, call it a day.

Tuesday.

Get the car from the back of the house to the front. In the snow!

Hooked the van up to a bit of rope, and pulled it round (slipping and sliding!)

In the garage (had to build a ramp to push it up!)

Start stripping

The new engine..

Hours later, front bumper and everyting off to get the hoist closer...

What a job!!!

Ended up taking the hole exhaust off, prop, gearbox, rad, everything. Is there an easier way??

To my horror, i found it had NO air filter, no even an air box, maybe why it blew up!

Thats how it is now.

Plans....

Scarab front bumper

Car.mad smooth side skirts

Standard 89 spec spoiler

Standard headlight gril panel

Air filter!!

Full PROPER respray (maybe white...)

Mot

Tax

Insurnace..... and then

Enjoy!

Sorry if i waffeled on, just thought i'd share my first real peice of zed ownership.

Any tip, help is welcome as to getting the engine back in!!:tank:

Ok, thought i'd update this thread to keep track of it all.

Zedworld got it running pritty much straight away after finding a few problems, none too major.

After they got it running, they finished putting it together including the exhaust.

When i went to pick it up, it wouldn't start.

I left it with this, and after investigating, they found the cam timing was way out, maybe due to the back pressure from the exhaust knocking it out, as it ran before the exhaust went back on.

They sorted that out and ive now got the car back.

The numpty recovery driver hit the bumper on the trucks ramp, so the front bumper is split.

I dont know if i should repair it, fit a standard one, or buy a Scarab one...

With the car home, i started it, to find it smokes like a trooper!

Im hoping its the PCV valves, and will update this with my progress..

Not much of an update. Haven't had chance to change the PCV valves which i think is causing the smokey exhuast!

Thought i'd take the rotten tailgate off my breaker and put it on this as its red not silver!

I like it without the tailgate!

I think it looks more finished with the red one on. I know its the wrong red tho!

When i get the respray, i'll be using the silver tailgate as this is one quite rotten!

Changed the PCV valves for the ones that were in the old engine.

10 times better, but still slightly smokey and a little misfire.

Ive got it mot'd and taxed. The sun is out so ive brought it home, roofs off, lovely!!

Just thought i'd upate this.

Well, the smoke got worse. I couldn't see it as much when driving, but people following me could, and from standing...

Decided to break it as i'd had enough. All the way through this journal, time money and effort was spent, hoping to get the car ready for the summer.

I just seem to be going backwards.

Ive done it before with cars, and just kepts spending. Im was still not happy and very broke!

Ive bought another so im not leaving the zeds!

A couple of things have been sold, but taking them off felt wrong. The car (lightning McQueen) doesn't deserve to die!

I put up a for sale thread, offering it as a project to get back to life.

Somebody (i'll let them say who) has agreed to fix her up!

So its goodbye from me, but not the end of the road for lightning!

Nice to know its not going to the scrapper in the sky, between you and baz our cars are getting rarer

Hopefully second hand 300zx prices will increase soon as baz continues to break the bloody things

Thats what i was doing it for..

I want £25 for my blue one!

Sold :D ill be round to pick it up in the morning.
