It turns over and there's deffinatly fuel getting to it, it was fine yesterday, only thing I did was top up with antifreeze, could it have something to do with my lack of an egr valve? I mean I was trying for ages and it didn't even try to fire up???

PTU problem perhaps? when i changed my PTU over for another unit, it just refused to fire. was cranking a good one too at the time, just no sparky getting to the Coilpacks. might just be coincidence but PTU failure at the time you topped up?

Hmm... Ptu, what's the difference between seriese 1 and 2? Where do I get one?

Is it trying to fire? I had something similar last week turned out the main coil relay in the large fuse box had failed, I had a spare but if i remember right you can use the aircon relay instead to test it!

No not even trying, it's throwing alotta fuel through, I'll try that tonight which ones the coil seem to remember it all being in Japanese in the relay box or is that the fuse box?.. Well either way I'll try that if it's a no go then i'll have to test the ptu somehow....

If it's throwing a lot of fuel then chances are it's simply flooded, which ain't hard to do on a Zed if theres corrosion on the temp sensor.

Drivers side in the engine bay next to firewall is a small fuse box, pull out he plug for the fuel pump, try starting the car, after about 5 trys it should fire up if flooded.

If it seems to be better at trying but not quite making it, whip out the 1st 4 plugs that are easy to get to and dry them out, start car again and should be okay.

Failing all the above, do an ECU diagnostic check.

As Smithy says sounds like you flooded the engine.

Worst case scenario is sticky valves. But lets not go there.

Excelent advise guys thanks alot will update when I get back from work and iv done what iv been advised to do :)

  • Author

Right, well iv bin home, first I pulled the fuel pump fuse and tried to fire it up, it didn't start up, I then swapped the aircon and the ign relays over, still no joy......

Ptu? Anyone live near me so I can try there's or a spare someone might have?

Ecu diagnosis? What's this and how do I so one? (wouldn't'v thaught I fitted a tt engine in this thing 6 months ago) lol!!

mate, maybe you could check your battery, if you have one of those circuit testers check to see if there is any unusual drain. Could be that ur battery is a bit flat.

Battary is sweet now, there doesn't appear to be a listing for ptu failure in that list of fault codes?

Not directly,look at 21............

Code 21 can relate to a ptu failure or a bad connection in the ignition amplifier circuit.I wouldnt just wade in and change it though.THe reason ptu,s fail is because the fine wire links inside fracture, when the ptu warms up with the engine running the expansion causes the fracture to expand causing an open circuit, car cools down and a connection is made again.

Right well, I opened it up, looks completly different inside /: no visable damage so I'm going to do an ecu diagnosis and go from there, any ideas?

  • Author

Any other clues? Iv lost dash lights now too??? Crank sensor? Knock sensor?

  • Author

Yea the battary is flat because iv been trying to start it every time iv tryed to fix it, but even attatched to a jump pack or another car, but even attatched to another car or jump pack the dash lights won't come on??

  • Author

To reiterate that crap comment I just wrote, the car tryed to start with no dash lights

Check the basics again, make sure all your fuses are intact, trying to start with a flat battery could have maybee popped a fuse, so go back to the beginning and check fuses.

Would spilt water maybee affect the Camshaft position sensor thingy, have you checked the plug into it on the passenger side of the front of the engine?

Eliminate the basics first.

HTH Cheers John

Assuming the lack of dash lights is connected to the non starting issue and no codes are shown on the ECU check, you should be able to forget all the usual suspects like PTU, CAS and Temp sensor and start looking at some of the big relays, think there's one called IGN Control? possibly Blue.

Other than getting it to a garage somehow, the relays has gotta be the next thing.

Aint snapped the belt have yer?

smithy

check all fuses as stated! i know this sounds stupid but has it got lots of fuel in it?

replace the plugs (dont just clean them) this happened to mine we tried everything & it was all of the plugs lol stupid i know but it does happen ...major head scratcher
