anybody used any spray cans of this, and if so can anyone recommend me a decent brand? i want to go over my spoiler / front bumper and rear bumper. also going to need some for when i finish off repairing the rear quarter.

I know the risks involved with using this stuff. mask / gloves and full body protection.

well, i tried the 1k stuff from halfords and it looks as dull as a dull thing on a very dull day with sunglasses on. so wanted to go for a more professional look to my lacquering. hell, im scared to even try buffing the halfords crap just in case i make it any more flat. and nope its not a matt lacquer i used last time.

same stuff as Jmwuk posted. just cheaper. think ill be giving it ago, cant be any worse then halfords stuff. god even clear glue has more shine to it.

OOh rear bumper is primered now, just waiting for a dry day to spray it the same color as the car :D

halfords stuff is ok just used a few more coats and then wet flat it then g3. Do not wax it for a few weeks as it will be still soft. If you wax it it cant harden.

1k will look shite after it's been in the sun better off using 2k my only concern is that you will be trying 2k laquer over 1k if it was me i would rub panel down apply a new coat of basecoat then 2k laquer over the top, the 2 stuff i used recomended spraying it in temperatures over 23 degrees so might not be right time of year to do it

well the front bumper hasn't got lacquer on at the moment as i didn't like how the 1k stuff turned out, even after 3 coats on the rear spoiler, so the only panel ill need to sand the 1k stuff off, is the spoiler, which there isn't much surface area of.

Rear bumper is just in primer stage at the moment, as i need to sort out some sanding marks oops... before i put the base coat on.

If this turns out good with the 2k, i might think about canning the whole car. as to be honest the front bumper turned out very well with the base coat. as long as the nozzle gives a fan pattern rather than a dot. you can get a good even coat. built the layers up 1 at a time, thin layers with 20mins to dry between until a good layer is there. cut it back with 1200grit. give it a good dry clean, then lacquer. but if i go the whole car route. id do all the panels from the same batch of spray, filling in where needed before the undercoat, then dry cleaning, but if i did any filling id use 2k primer as filler tends to absorb paint and can leave marks if not done right to start with once you get the base coat on. id also document it as well :D

Worked it out, at around £250 for using Cans to do the whole car, including budgeting for 2k primer and 2k lacquer

Would be cheaper to buy a good spray gun and 5ltr of 2k anti scratch. would be about £70 and would come out ten times better.

i have the use of a air compressor and gun, but problem is i have no where to do it at the moment, my garage is that small i couldn't even do it in there if i tried. you have to take the targa off the car and get out with the window down as it is, so spraying a car in there would be a no go. only thing i could think of is the obvious gazebo like boldly. but biggest problem with that, is i live in a block of flats. so it would be out in the open on its own while i was tucked up in bed asleep. would rather not give anyone cover away from prying eyes to break into my car.

it could be that you used used 1200 grit on the basecoat that it is giving you shine issues normally you would spray the basecoat let it go off (should have a semi shine to it) then laquer over the top i would still use 2k though as it is more durable but be warned once you open a can and start to use it you need yo use all you need within 24 hours as will will set in the can you can slow down the curing process by keeping it in the fridge

Very interested in this, so your saying dont cut back the base coat at all ??

i do, but its so fine a grit paper, you brush the dust off and it still looks like you just sprayed it on. i only cut it back the once, then give it another coat. gives the layer a good bond, then lacquer the hell out of it. but would ideally want to try the 2k stuff after looking at boldys new engine bay. it looks stunning. although i believe boldy was using a air compressor and air gun
