He hasn't said where about in the world he is but I'm damn sure I'm not adding anyone on MSN after a previous scary experience lol!!

When I had my car yard I use to get about 2 or 3 bankers drafts a week saying send the car to the docks and some will pick it up then put the draft in the bank. The drafts where so bad only good for them was to wipe my ass.

I sold my last Supra twin turbo to a guy from Nice in the south of france so it's not uncommon for a buyer from the continent to buy a car from the UK, but he was happy to use the phone and email as a method of contact.

 

Just tell him you prefer to use email.

Ive sold 2 cars abroad. 1 to finland 1 to germany.

Both paid a deposit without seeing the car, and used the phone and email.

 

You get a feeling for whats genuine or not.

I will see if the dude has emailed me again as I can't check from work. Trying to keep an open mind but after previous experiences, I am not keen to add anyone on Facebook/MSN in case they're just being creepy/pervy!

A couple of years ago I was selling a car worth £3000 to a guy from France. He said he would meet me at Newhaven with the cash and trailer it back. I wasn’t to happy with the deal so I insisted on a £500 cash deposit in advance, which amazingly enough he couriered over to me. I met the ferry he was meant to be on at Newhaven but there was no sign of him. I phoned and emailed for a couple of weeks, no response. Then his wife emailed me and said he had gone to the USA on urgent business, he was very sorry and said keep the deposit and forget the deal. Nice work if you can get it. I later sold the car on P Heads for the full amount.

 

The other weird deal was when I sold my Yamaha 750 on ebay. I put ‘UK only and buyer to arrange pick up’ on the ad. The winning bidder was from Australia!!!! There were about 20 bids and his came in at the last nano second. He insisted on buying the thing and paid instantly with paypal. Shipping cost was £850 and loads of hassle and paper work.

 

So be very cautious when selling to people you cant have some kind of direct contact with, even more suspicious when they don’t want to see the vehicle first, see them and see the money.

Nobody even gets to see the car without some sort of proof that they're in a position to buy. Had so many tyre kickers in the past - 1 woman turned up, test drove my micra then said she liked it but needed to sell hers first :mad2:

If I still have the car in Jan (quite likely, I won't undersell this car lol) then by all means tell him to come and see it.

I drive all over the town in it, and it is most definitely the ONLY yellow zed here. In fact don't think there is another Zed in Middlesbrough - Redcar yes, Stockton yes but not Boro!

Jan what do you pay insurance on it if i can ask ..is there much diference between a NA and a TT ... he has a very well looked after 2005 i think ,Corsa in black 1.2 that only breathes the fumes off his petrol at the moment i think he wil be in for a shock :)

I've got mine with Lynbrook on a classic policy and I am old so its not really comparing like with like - might be worth asking some of the youngsters on here what they pay for their Zeds as daily drivers? Think I pay about £280 a year fully comp, its really low anyway but if your son has his own insurance, got some no claims then he might find its not too big a shock if he shops around. Recently i found More Than came up trumps with the cheapest for me and also Aviva (who aren't on the comparison websites)

Obviously the running costs for a 3.0l Zed, even an n/a will be significantly higher than a Corsa, but I can't complain about the fuel economy on long runs, I did Teesside to Alton Towers and back again on £38 of petrol in Sept!
