who has what? ive been doing some reading etc on the subject today and it seems plently of people have boost jets but plently of people dont reccomend them? so lets discuss. bang for buck or buck to prevent bang? say we would like to achive 12-14psi safely without bankrupting another highstreet bank and without destroying a perfectly good vg block, whats the sensible route

My last Z ran perfect with 1.0 mm boost jets at 14 psi the hole time I had it but if I was going for alot more power like i am now then Ive gone for a Apexi AVCR

justa littel scared of boost spikes, but i think the manual convesrion is higher on the list atm. think il probally feel more of a differnce changing to manual than upping boost?

no you'll feel far more oomph upping the boost from 9.5psi to 14psi! I ran 1mm jets for a couple of years with no issues - I did get the occasional spiking but there was no evidence that it had caused any long-term damage (I don't blame it for the hairline crack in my old block anyway!). I now run an EBC and am very happy with the ability to adjust how the boost builds up and how far.

I'm not sure why people bother with boost jets anymore (other than the fact there so easy to fit) If you dont want to spend out on an electronic boost controller fit a manual boost controller (Dawes Device) they are available on ebay for about £20 and they will control boost perfectly across the whole rev range.

Just make sure its the sprung ball valve type and not the cheaper needle valve.

And when fitted boost is still adjustable and not fixed as with jets.

With the manual boost controllers what would be the effects of inbalances boost between the two turbos, due to the 2 boost controllers not being wound out enough compared to the other?

thats exatcly what i was was thinking hollings. realstically i think going for the ebc whilt more expensive is going to be safer and potentially cheaper in the long run method

I think id still be inclined to look at the boost jets though as they dont have the problem of setting them both up to the right ammount of turns etc. plus once i have found the optimum boost id like to have which would be around 12psi once ive purchased the upgrades required for it i wouldnt really want an EBC to change it whenever i wanted, cause it would be there when i want it, and every other time i drive off boost anyway.

A couple of other differences not mentioned :

EBC builds boost quicker and harder = faster spool, more performance

Plus an EBC maintains set boost with varying temps.....unlike boost jets which will overboost and underboost depending on outside temp, its never a set number.

but if you had a dawes device on each side and they were inbalanced it would cause damage over time ?

I always wonder why nobody seems to go with a manual controller.

I'm thinking boost jets for now...
