Recently had my fronts replaced and now time to get my rears done. I'm having Falken 452 all round. Had them on a previous car and really rate them. However, just wondering how you guys are finding prices at the moment? been quoted £120 each for 265/35/18. Is this good?

Thanks for any input. :yinyang:

Sounded pretty fair to me, just wondered what the 'norm' is? Fitted, balanced and old one's disposed of seems like a good price. It's a mate of a mate, did my fronts for £70 each.

I got my 2 fronts on the vectra for that price lol!!!!

I think i paid £140 each on the rears but i am a size up, sounds about right to me :)

That'll be another expensive weekend in the life of Zed ownership then!! Almost thinking of selling up.

Pretty much all of my expenditure has been through choice (apart from S2 PTU) so all my own fault, but somehow it seems to make me spend money on making it better!! Already owes me far too much money.

if you are not intending to go for track days then maybe you should consider some of the cheaper brands. I got a set of four, cant remember the names, but they cost roughly £80 for front and £100 for back including fittings. so far its been 3 months and ive had no problems at all, they grip well and can manage up to 150mph for prolonged periods (even though they are not suppose to go over 110), and so far ive been from london to brighton and to birmingham three times, not to mention driving around london a lot, and so far they dont show signs of wear. :)

as a student i have to look for cheap reliable alternatives :D

Falken 452 = £107 each + £4.98 p+p = £218.98 + what ever you may be charged to fit them roughly £10 per tyre.

Be careful you are using the wrong tyre rating for the z, you may find your insurance invalid if you have an accident and possibly a failed mot.

are you serious? you drive at that speed with tyres that are only meant to do 110....playing with life there. They could go at any moment. I drive a 160bhp civic, goes nowhere as fast as a Zed but my tyres handle more then the actual car can do haha

Yeah but the tyre rating is fine for the z, its just that the brand is less well known. And yeh i only push the top speed above the recommended for a short time, not prolonged. although youre right its a stupid thing to do lol.

The Falken are a cheap brand. A V.good tyre, but at value prices. £120 for a 265/35/18 is good, you can pay twice the price for a comparable tyre from one of the big name brands !

But fitting cheap non performance tyres to a heavy, powerfull rwd sports car with low speed ratings then doing the sort of speeds you mention is just plain fail.

Edited by Yowser

They are performance tyres and they have good speed ratings, i will find out the names later and post it up. and yeh the speed was a fail but i get a speed rush sometimes but i wont be doing that again.,

Cheap tyres are often a false economy. Especially if you keep the car for a while, you'll find "budget" tyres need replacing far more often than "premium" brands, although I admit they may cost twice as much you may find that your budget tyres need replacing 3 times more often.

Also, it shouldnt have to be said but budget tyres on a 300bhp+ RWD car that has no traction control, are you insane?

I have falken 452's, I consider those to be at best a medium range tyre and offer a happy medium between pilot sport 2's and kumho ditchfinders. However, as a medium range tyre they are the "lowest" brand I would dream of fitting to a high performance car.

Cheapie McCheap tyres should grace, at best a 60bhp saxo otherwise your just asking for trouble. Hell my even diesel astra has mid range bridgestones on it!

Is it ever likely so many get crashed each winter!

I have to agree 100%......

.......the tyres are all that hold you to the road and it's the one area you should never skimp on!! This is a mistake many ZX owners make - they see that a 300zx is relatively cheap to buy now; but do not realize that the running costs are still on par with a car costing tens of thousands:scared:

Always fit the best you can afford, and if that happens to be a dodgy far eastern brand no-one has heard of, then a 300zx is definitely not the car for you.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Soooo glad i removed my Clear HP166s from the back of mine... nasty, nasty tyres. No grip at all in the damp. The Falkens FK452s i replaced them with seem a lot better so far.

I paid £255 for a pair of 255 35 18s fitted, so £120 a tyre sounds about right to me.

I had cheap tyres on the back of my mx5 before this, and then span it in the wet. im definitely not getting cheap tyres on the back again (fronts maybe) for budget tyres, have you considered part worns? buy from a reputable seller, but then you can get some decent contis, michelins or pirellis with 4-5mm of tread for £70 a tyre.
