Time to change. Any suggestions for a good aftermarket manufacturer of quality cam belts. I don't need racing or track day spec, just a highly recommended make. Cheers.

Gates make top aftermarket belts - I would personally use a genuine Nissan belt & tensioner etc (which I did LOL!)

Would say stay only with OEM product from Nissan, or get from Mr F or Zedworld in Traders section.

Problem with buying unknown replacement belts, is they look the same, but may be one lees tooth. which will cause major probs. have a search on cambelts, Jeff at Zedworld did a write up.

I agree with Paul - Nissan genuine part only! They're not as expensive as you think; and for such a vital component remember that a couple of extra ££s is still way cheaper than a new engine!!

 

I think JeffTT posted a thread once comparing aftermarket belts with the OEM one - with scary results!!

I had originally a blueprint cambelt. When an A/B was done with the Blueprint and OEM, the blueprint is slightly out a tooth, which obviously affects the timing and ultimately running, so for £50 -ish i would get a Nissan cambelt from MJP

Quality not a question here, valid teeth registration and spacing is, also the use of Nissan suggested change periods does not apply to NON Nissan belts, out of interest have you checked a Gates belt against a genuine Nissan one?

to be honest i havent, and as they are about the same cost i will use a nissan belt when i put my motor back together, you do raise a good point about the markings though. i would be surprised if the gates was out though.

I still rate them just not for zeds after that,had me baffled a bit at the time as to why belt was so tight.i do still use their range of serpentine belts when i install underdrive pulleys.

Agreed - used them loads myself. They do nice kits too with tensioner/idler pulleys that need to be replaced at the same time :)

That was why i started using them on zeds to begin with bud,in the trade as you well know they are regarded as good kit,if you got one of their sets to fit on a motor you knew it was alright and never questioned its quality,as you say loads of vehicles use them as oem stuff,French stufff especially.
