right just got my zed through mot

foned my insurance company to change some details and they want to increase my payments from £48p/m to £230

im insured on a highly modifyied accord(jdm h22a(240bhp) engine swap, bodykit and full chassis change to type-r):scared:

they say its to much of a jump in power even though its an actual decres by 18bhp:smartass:

anyway in total they want an extra 1500 per year.

iv tryed compare the market and got a quote of £652 but that means iv been paying 9 months just to lose another years no claims....i wish insurance was easy...

i might add the first real drive of the zed was to the center and back and iv never had a smile like that driving anything so as you can imagin iafter the work iv put in getting the zed up to standards i really want to drive it.

Have a word with the insurance company again and quote what you have already been quoted and state they either match it, or stay with the same policy. or you will change company.

i tried that they want the rest of my months payments as a canccelation fee(whers that rude smillie when you need him)they said if i take the policy out with them they waive the cancelation fee..but the deposi is far more than that.

check your small print for cancellation fees. sounds like they are trying to bully you into getting the details changed over and a higher rate. who is it with by the way?

its with kwikfit just now the new quote was with admiral in my opinion a better company by far..

I had insurance with Kwikfit before, now I'm not saying you should do this, but when i got screwed around by them, i paid the last months insurance (as they wanted the same thing, that's why i asked who it was with, they wanted the rest of the insurance as a cancellation fee) then cancelled my direct debit with them at the bank. i then rang Kwikfit and told them, as i was paying monthly there was no way i "owed" them the rest of the insurance. or they will be covering me for the rest of the agreement at the stated original policy price, if i hand the rest over.

Had i missed a payment they would of first sent a letter stating that, and then had it failed the next DD payment the policy gets cancelled anyway, its a safeguard. i had one letter after that asking for the rest of the policy money, i then rang them again and explained that as i was no longer covered by there policy i owe them nothing. i haven't heard anything since (and this was beginning of last year).

This is not the usual route i would take. so i wouldn't do this with all companies. as far as i was concerned, them asking for the rest of the cash for a service they were no longer going to supply is what id call very unreasonable. AA only charge a £12 cancellation fee.

Big companys like that try and bully you. for me this approch with kwikfit worked. But you also have to make sure you make them fully aware of your intentions as you find there fee unreasonable. this way you cover your self, as you have at least tried to reason with them.

thank very much i did find a bullish overtone to the fone calls

tbh am not to botherd about startin a new ful years no claim it was the massive hike in price they wanted and the cancelation fee.ill try this and see how i goes

thanks for the advice man..felt like they had me by the short n hairies

I wouldn't call it advice and i wouldn't say its the best solution, it worked for me as i dont like it when a big company thinks they can hold the little man by the short and curlys. as long as they know, instead of just doing it and not contacting them, they really cant say much as you have had the decency to be honest with them, even if they haven't been with you.

ill give it a shot n see what they say.iv been with them for a couple of years now not coz there the best cover just the cheapest i could get..never missid a payment and then they turn round and do that...i though turning 25 was the start of cheap insurance

if you have just turned 25 and you have another car available to drive to and from work, your best bet would be classic car insurance as long as the vehicle is 15 years old or older.

And for that id say give Lynbrook or Carol Nash a ring

  • Author

how would that work as i dont need to drive to work as i get picked up from the house or i get the works van home

the car is a weekend toy really

Let them know then, say you don't have a daily driver as a second car, but you only drive it at weekends, not sure how they would take that as they would only have your word to go by.

ok ill give them a ring tomorow. i can garantee that itll be less the 5000miles per year.

right now looks as if admiral are the best theyrs no stipulations or anything soo might just have to bite the bullet

thats the thing that gets me they get all your details then they cant give you a quot or whatever but a couple of days later you get phone calls and emails about insurance from assoisiated brokers...

in fact im going to start a new thread about this

Lynbrooks annoyed me too - took ages to actually speak to someone only to find out you have be 30 for a manual TT.
