My Z is knocking for a couple of seconds on start up and at revs over 3000. I presume it will need re shelling.

 

What sort of cost would I be looking at ?

ACL bearings are around £150 if i remember right! ideal replacement bearings if you dont go for genuine Nissans

£150 for the shells. Can they be fitted with the engine in or does it have to come out

Just spoken with Zedworld and they explained it not worth just re shelling it. Would need crank out to do the job properly. This would be about the same price as an engine replacement, £1500. Dont think the cars worth spending that much on it. So gonna have to have a long hard think what to do, but looks like my days of owning a Z are over.

Dude there is a decent recon £600 engine in the for sale forum, maybe pull the old one out and do a swop over.

 

Either do it yourself or get a price from someone else to do it or help with it.

scabbyz32 has a good engine as well with history up for grabs.

It can be done as a DIY job as well providing you dont rush it.

Having thought about it long and hard sorry to say I,m giving the Zed up. Letting it go for spares or repairs. Got myself an Audi A4 2.8 quattro. Of course it hasnt quite got the kick of the Zed but its not bad and christ almighty does it go round corners well.

 

So.....Its been a fun 3 years of owning one but all good things come to an end.

 

Guess I,ll be off now to join an A4 forum.

I swapped my na for a tt, it's not that difficult as an engine swap, I'm a complete novis, as long as you can get a ramp and an engine crain IRS really not that difficult, I'd rather do that than rebuild it

My zx was knocking on overrun on the bottom end got a set of acl race bearings from the states (mains and big ends for about 70 delivered and replaced them all with engine in £k later and all still well as long as you catch it early and not drive around with it knocking its brains out u can get away with it. done it on my mates car too with similar success
