I want to install a switch to toggle between ABS being on and off this is simple enough but i want to install an LED next to the switch so know when its on or off, will also look smart :)

 

The switch will prob run through an earth wire on the abs ecu or which everwire will work.

How should i go about wiring an led to the switch, heres a diagram of how i think it should be wired im prob wrong but here goes anyway:

if you run through a earth you would need to supply voltage to + side of the led so when switch is in the 'on' position and running to ground the led will light

surely the abs ecu will have a voltage wire i can run from so when im cutting power to the ecu im cutting power to the led also?? or just take one end of the led to a 12v igniton feed?

 

Any chance of a cheap diagram?

Not certain...but disabling power to the ABS ECU may cause the abs light to come on....negating the need for the led ?

Yeah im aware of this and im going to remove the abs light in the dash, i was going to mention this above :) I want it to look neat, a nice green led next to the switch.

Im also going to install an led for my accusump switch and a switch/led for my innovate wideband gauge and sensor as the accusump seems to be conflicting with the wideband sensor giving off an error code on idle, strange.

Why dont you use a switch with led built into it

Wouldn't it be easier to get a switch with a LED already inside it? i know my Zed had one down by the dash that wasn't connected, had a LED in it. powered it up and when switched on, the switch its self would light up.

This is true.

 

Just take the live feed from the out going of the switch (if you choose to switch the live) this means the live will only have voltage if the switch is made. and then just earth it at the most convinient point.

Ah, draw me a diagram :) Im guessing il have to wire one end of the led to a 12v ignition feed and the other end to the ground from the switch? ah il work it out im sure.

 

Obviously make sure you have a 12v LED, and that you are using the switch on the ECU 12v feed.

Do you want the led on all the time the abs is on, or do you want it on when the abs is off?

 

Basically the switch is inline and is acting as a breaker to the feed of the abs. You can use the 12v from the abs for the led with a 470ohm resistor on the positive leg and ground to the switch ground, the led will be on all the time the abs is on, if you only want the led on when abs is off you will need a seperate 12v feed for the led and make ground when switch is on, thus making the circuit.

you will need a resistor in line with the positive feed to the led, the value depends on the voltage of the led

R1 in the diagran should be 470 ohm for a 3.5volt LED, if you buy from maplin the sales guy will work out the correct resistor for the LED you buy.

Hang on, shouldnt the resistor be fitted through the negative feed? Just wondering coz in the ebay add, the diagram shows a resistor in the negative side.
