As some of your may know ive been restoring and modifying the Zed for about 3 years now and a lot has been done i cant imagine how many hours has been spent working on the car making sure everything is done at its best.

The car still seems like it needs alot of work to be complete but im finding it hard to find the time and enthusiasm to work on it lately.

As im no mechanic or in the car trade at all working on the car has been one long learning process. Hitting wall after wall of complications with the modifications has taken its toll and im not sure if to carry on or give up.

I know i would regret selling up and not finishing the car as ive put so much effort and money in to the car.

But im not sure if reality is kicking in and realizing i may not ever finish the car at the rate im going its just going to be one big money pit that never gets finished.

What would you do?

Sell it and buy one that's not a money pit! Then mod it. Another invaluable hint is this: Dont buy a mod unless it's 100% what you WANT, never get something because it'll do and the good parts hard to find/ too expensive.

Sorry to here that mate, you know how much i like your zed aswell!

You could keep going but you never know what will happen or how much it will cost. Or like somebody has suggested get another one with no problems. Personally after 3years i would keep going tho:D!

Only a matter of time dude before it all back together and sitting there begging you to take it out for a nice drive on a sunny day with the targa roofs off and the music on!

Reading your post you should be looking at the positives , ie, the achievements and the way you have overcome the tricky bits , hopefully your just a bit tired and need a rest ,may be take a couple of wks off the project . hope you persevere, and chin up

Thanks for all your nice comments! Im sure if i make a bit more effort i can get back in to the swing of things. If anyone wants to join the zedoholics club your more than welcome to use my tools and drink my tea haha

as said before in other forums Dan, don't sell the old girl, for a bloke that's not in the auto industry, you have acheived so much. the reward from the finished article will out way any woes you have at present.

keep with it buddy, we're all here to help :)

You're doing one hell of a job with that car mate, stick with it knowing that you'll have a fine car when you're finished. I've my 300 for 5 years now and I reckon its been driving for around 1 of those 5, still love it though.

Joely is this some get together to all work on Gibsters motor and get it on the road quicker? if so count me in

it can be... but i thought, just turning up at his house with a load of zeds will prolly give him his mojo back and rekindle the love and motivation to push through the final chapter. your point is valid though... while we are there it will be pointless standing around looking! how many zeds can we get outside your house :sailor:

looking how clean his engine is, it would have to be surgical gloves and clean overalls. well i wouldn't be in a 300zx, but a citroen ZX lol bit smaller less power, but better fuel econ.

stuck with the ZX name then:D!:sorcerer:

Zeds area pita mate. everyone goes through this. I can think of 4 recently thinking the same. i was one off them lol!!!

Kepp your chin up mate :duffer:

Stick with it fella. It's bound to get you down every now and then, but all your obvious hard work and effort will be worth it. Your attention to detail is why it's taking so long but ultimately why you have such an impressive and desirable Zed. Top work and well done to you.

I'd keep on plowing away if i was you mate. you'd never get your money back for parts OR time. If you finish it, you'll enjoy driving it again :)

Think you've answered your own question right there! Stick with it buddy, for someone who is not a mechanic and has done so much so far it would be a shame to end it now :( Picture in your head the day that you turn the key to take her on her 1st run since putting things back together :) That's one hell of an accomplishment and I would personally be well chuffed with myself. Just to be able to say to people 'I DID THAT' :) :) :)

i've been doing mine for 3 years too, but have never got to the point where i have wanted to give up, i've always taken the opinion that 'money i might not have, but time i have got', i didn't set a deadline, to be honest, if i had it wouldn't have been done, still isn't!

Hi Gibster-TT

I just had a look at your car................i can see why you are thinking of calling it a day as you have more or less overindulged in the modding of your car. As great as it looks, it represents a lot if time spent working on it and you are now starting to think of the time it will take to complete.................

You are living the dream of many Zed owner. Space , time , funding and the ability to understand instruction......not only that but the nerve to make big changes. I suspect that part of you is thinking what will happen when you actually complete it and what will you apply yourself to then? You seem to be a natural achiever of goals and ( IMO ) it would almost be going against your grain, to not complete the job.....You even painted the gearbox....c'mon.

Stick to it mate. The experience and knowledge you will have gained to pass on to the rest of us NEWBIES will be so valuable and your car will be like a certificate of all you know. You may even be able to give a lecture at Zedaholics about the repercussions of overindulgence and knowing when to stop.

The other side of this is Think of the ride ..........I'd love to own your car when it's finished.

Mind you, if you really sick of the whole she-bang you should just donate the whole lot to me ( i'm not too proud ) and rest assured that you have done a great thing for a fellow human being ..............then you can help me finish it ...HE! HE!

Naaaa! stick to it mate, you've come a long way, wish i lived in your neck of the woods i'd sure help give you the encouragement you need.
