I know there have been a few of these 'hit and run' incidents reported over the past few months; with the majority of culprits never to be seen again.

Hopefully this one will have a happy ending with the individual responsible being banged to rights.

In a nut shell:

My wife came home half an hour ago and said that somebody had driven into her car.

She was in Sainsbury's doing the weekly shopping at the time, with the car parked up outside.

When she returned to the car she found a note pinned to the windscreen stating that 'your car has been hit please report to the security officer'

It would appear that one of those really nice people; you know the type, one of those 'I'm gonna drive into your car and cause damage but will just leave off' types.

As luck would have it, the security guard and another bystander, witnessed what had happened and took down the culprits details.

Time, date, make, model and VRN (effectively everything that the Police will need to pursue the individual responsible)

Hereford Police are obviously having quite a quiet day today as they asked my wife to pop straight down to the Police station with all of the details.

The witness left a name and contact telephone number so that the Police can take a statement.

Obviously this person will be recieving a nice thank you gift from us both for taking the time to do the right thing.

Invaluable information, as without it, we would have no option other than to claim off our own insurance.

Sarah's on her way to the Police station now with details in hand

Not really a Z related story but one that I'm sure a lot of members can empathise with.

accidents do happen of course, but people who cause damage and drive away without even leaving a note should face the full wrath of the law, in my opinion.

I totally agree mate.

keep us updated as to what happens. I'll be very interested to hear what the culprit says when the police turn up at their door.

Will do bud, but I reckon it'll be some sort of pathetic 'I didn't realise' excuse.

Yeah, didn't realise that you half ripped another cars bumper off....really???

Thats great news to hear you have people on your side, doesn't happen too much nowadays :thumbup1:

Well my wife's just got back from the Police station and she's not too impressed.

The police officer on the desk didn't exactly inspire confidence

when my wife asked where they would be taking the issue, she was told that a form would be filled out and sent to the 'accident department'?

my wife then asked if a police officer would be paying the culprit a visit and was told 'probably not'?

to that my wife asked the question 'well isn't it a criminal offence to leave the scene of an accident without leaving contact details' of which the response was 'I don't know'??????

All that was missing was the comical 'computer says no!' sketch just to finish it off

Do the police just employ the cleaner on weekends to sit behind the desk or something!

We've just contacted the witness direct and he informed us that the culprit was fully aware that they had damaged our car as they reversed and then pulled forward to inspect the extent of the damage

I'm not gonna turn this into an OAP witch hunt but 'that' sort of gives an indication of who the culprit was

not a happy teddy at the mo'

I certainly wouldn't let the Police fob you off. If you want I can ask my mate who worked for the traffic dept of the police for years and would know what they "should" do about it

^^^ cheers bud

might be useful to get the 'official' line on what should be done by the police in these situations.

My wife will pop back down to the police station tomorrow, maybe there'll be someone on duty who actually knows what day of the week it is.

The thing is, if the police do nothing when everything that they need is handed to them on a plate, it doesn't really inspire much confidence for the occassions when they will actually have to do the leg work themselves

my mate did a hit and run, not clever but he was scared, nevertheless no excuse to do it, the stupid idiot.

anyway an hour after the police came down, they had a right go at him and threatened him with a notice off something, basicly they said theyre will be a letter in the post for him to go to court, few years later he received nowt, but his insurance did pay the other person off, anyway, i think in this scenario he was lucky as the person most likely didnt want to persue.

don't think we could wait a couple of years in this instance, the culprit must have been knocking on for 90 years old as it is

sorry what i meant is that my mate did the hit and run and he had to await a vedict which never came, but his insurance payed out within 1 week to the 3rd party.

gotcha'

the drama we're going to face with my wife's car is that it's the only Nissan Wingroad in the UK, so a new rear bumper would have to be imported from Japan or NZ.

Then the paint would have to be colour matched etc, etc

the last thing we want is a perfectly good car being written off by the insurance company just because it's too costly to repair the damage caused by some geriatric coffin dodger with a severe moral fibre deficiancy

That's the one mate, doesn't look anything special but rare as hens teeth outside Japan and NZ.

That's why it cost so much to insure it, and why we ended up having to take the policy out with Adrian Flux

geriatric coffin dodger with a severe moral fibre deficiancy

Hope you get it sorted fella, if they do write it off buy it back and do it up yourself :duffer:

Quick update:

my wife phoned me whilst I was in work to say that a Police car had just turned up outside our house.

Great I thought, at least they're going to eventually bring us some good news.

WRONG!!!

Apparently they had recieved a complaint from my next door neighbours elderly mother saying that 'my' truck was parked over my neighbours driveway and they were blocked in.

The Police had come to investigate!

Quite calmly my wife showed the Police officer (a young woman) where my truck was parked.

The Police officer immediately agreed that my truck was parked in a designated parking space and was in no way obstructing my neighbours drive.

Pointing out in fact that even though the 'granny annexe' had been built behind the designated parking space, I had made additional effort to ensure that their driveway wasn't blocked, even though I would have been well within my rights to do so.

The Police officer re-visiting the old coffin dodger explaining that she had in fact wasted Police time and pointed out to her that my truck was not in any way blocking the drive.

The Police officer returned to face the wrath of my wife.

By this stage my wife was fuming, and quite abruptly pointed out the fact that she couldn't believe that even though

(1) The Police couldn't bother their arse to investigate the damage caused to my wifes car the previous week despite having all of the evidence, eye winess accounts etc readily available

(2) Couldn't bother their arse to investigate a previous incident when I was working away and whilst she was 30+ weeks pregnant she was driving when a passenger sat in the rear of a car pulled up alongside and opened fire through the window with a high power air rifle, penetrating the side of my wife's car and causing her to crash.

After questioning by the Police, the driver of the car wouldn't disclose who the passenger who pulled the trigger was, the Police claimed that they couldn't persue it any further

and finally

(3) After being presented with all of the evidence showing how a company had de-frauded me of £20,000 and subsequently the tax payer of £250,000+, the Police claimed that it was outside of their remit and so couldn't persue it further, even though they admitted that they could see clearly what the individuals/company had done and were in fact, still doing!

but they were prepared to come out of their way to investigate a report of a 'car parked over someones f***ing driveway!!!'

and that sirs, ladies and gents is why this country is so well and truely F****D!!!

God forbid you pop down the shops for a pint of milk and come back 10 minutes later to find squatters in your house, attempt to remove them physically and you're going down for at least 5 years in pokey!

Makes you wonder why we bother risking all, just to have the piss taken when back on home soil

That's un****ingbelievable!!! OMG! The worst bit is that when the police do eventually get their doughnut fuelled arses in gear to investigate an ACTUAL crime, the chuffing CPS throw the case out anyway!! :mad2:

LMFAO!!!!!

And they wonder why people take matters into their own hands lol

BTW, you cant blame the police out there responding to stuff, they are told what then can and cant do its big brother to blame. Most coppers would love nothing more than to be given free reign to run the law properly!

I'm gutted for you that it happened; but very pleased that there are still some good, helpful people left in the world.

It's great that you have witnesses and the details of the culprit. I hope the police do them for leaving the scene of an accident as well!!

**edit - just read the rest of the thread about PC Piglet. I can't believe that; it just goes to show that their priorities are all wrong; if you're speeding on an empty motorway then you're public enemy number 1 but commit a crime, well that's just OK.......**

Good luck in getting it all sorted mate!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

same thing happened to me a few years back . i was actually sat in the car at the time so jumped out to confront the fella . he denied hitting my car and drove off . i went straight round to the local police station and gave them a statement and his reg plate . their response was because it had happened on private land (multi storey car park ) it was out of their duristiction and would have to be dealt with by my insurance .

i wonder if we were in our zeds doing donuts and smoking peace pipes and stellered out of our heads in a multi storey whether the old bill would have the same out of our duristiction attitude.

good luck finding the culprit and getting some justice
