while messing around in the car today i found a damp patch of carpet pretty much in the middle under the brake pedal . lifted the carpet for a better look and the damp area felt sort of greasy . is this the dreaded heater matrix . the damp patch is in a central position on the carpet as opposed to being wet down the side of the centre console .

how difficult is this job gonna be for a 6"3 bloke with sausage fingers?

cheers

Normally if the matrix goes, it goes. like pisses out onto the floor as apose to damp. Plus, you smell it too.

I had 12 air freshners in the footwell of my old Trans Am to try to get rid of the smell :(

sounds like heater matrix mate.

Its not a hard job just takes a while to do it .

Is yours auto or man?

its an auto . i think it must be the matrix cus theres a greasy feel to the damp patch .

Mmmm, had mine bypassed to stop that but due to winter incomming i got it fixed recently at Zedworld, plus being an Auto it will be cheaper as there is no clutch pedel to remove. if your not really a car handy man and its your daily driver like mine, id recommend zedworld the got it done very quickly.

Hollings.

if its greasy/oily it could be you brake pedal losing fluid??

my vectra did it on the clutch pedal.

could be your heater matrix. or a blocked drain pipe from your tagas?

If its an auto you can do the matrix without removing most of the dash.not a nice job though.

Best way is full removel of the dash and its not hard that way just takes a bit of time .

a weekend if your not a mechanic mate should do it. if you did it yourself.

alright mate . it has got the feel of brake fluid about it . where exactly should i check for the leak point . is there some type of valve behind the pedal

i spose if you blotted a bit off against a tissue and then some from the resivour in teh engine bay you could compare the two. if its coolant from the heating system it will be green or browny green. clutch/brake fluid is ussually a clear blowny colour if im correct. you should also be able to sniff the difference. i dont sudjest a taste test :D but as pbyrant said matrix fluid smells, its smells like fish.(or maybe thats cos my old daily hack was used to go fishing all the time :D)
