Guys and girls.

Ive had this rattle for some time now, and its really starting to piss me off.

Basically its a top end whirring rattle, sounds like a blown bearing. Its completely intermittent make no odds whethers its hot or cold. it can be provoked by holding the revs at around 2.5k rpm - 3k rpm.

I can tell you its not:

Cambelt tensioner - new

Tensioner pulley - new

Idler pulleys - new

Water pump - new

A/C pump - Disconnected and rattle still present

Alternator - Disconnected and rattle still present

Power steering pump - Disconnected and rattle still present

Lifters - not a lifer noise, two oil changes havent improved/worsened it

Bullet beliefs the VVT springs are in a perfectly servicable condition.

Have a listen:

Ideas please, its really starting to get to me!

NIck just listened and on the outside vid, the ticking noise seems to be louder when you have the camera at the rear bulkhead first 5-20 secs. Have you tried the long screwdriver trick against various parts of the block etc to try and pin point the area more accuratley? Might be worth a try?

Sorry can't be of more help. It would annoy the hell out of me aswell if it was my car :gun_bandana:

Oh forgot to add, ive had a listen to each camshaft with a probe, and all 4 shafts sound exactly the same with

hi mate, i had something similar to this and was convinced i had a top end noise, got a good mechanic mate of mine and checked with long probe on top of block not cam covers! and digonoised it being a bottom end noise i was not convinced, but i pulled the engine and it turned out my main bearings and crank had seen better days.

Hope its not the case for you but you seemed to covered most over things, May be a

compression test? and what is oil pressure like.
