I was under the impression it's illegal to fit gas meters in a house? Basically my neighbour has had 2 extra gas meters fitted so 3 in total but the guy who fitted them is in no way shape or form registered.

Featured Replies

I thought it was too, I'd report it mate just in case his house blows up and takes yours with it!

It's not even that, it's just that this new owner is a complete liar right from the start. He's obviouly trying to convert it into as many rooms s possible to let out, even built a shed that's fully insulated, split into 2 rooms (one small for a bathroom) complete with soil pipe and trying to tell me it's for tools. Just hate liars!! and also the fact I'm hoping to move in the few years and who'd really want to live next door to a house rented out to possibly 4 tenants with 4+ cars

you can put more meters in they are secondary meters i.e if you have multiple occupancy, but you must be gas registered and qualified to install meters

Not sure how it works down south but the fitter must be CORGI registered up north.

Agreed, i thought that anybody working on any gas pipes must be CORGI registered.

Dob the lying b***ard in to the gas company - they will come and do a spot check or something surely?

I know the guy who fitted them and he's not registered but I wouldn't grass on him. I just don't like the new neighbour who's devious..................

Didn't realise you could have secondary meters put in by anyone but British Gas, damn! lol

thing is if he is renting out the rooms he will have to get landlord checks by law, every year and if the meters are not installed correct they will be disconnected. But then again thats IF he gets landlords checks

well I know he hasn't had any sort of approval to turn them into flats which he's obviously doing and I've not problem with getting onto the council when people start turning up to look over the place (council won't do anything until that point).

i think its shocking that anyone other than gas fitters or the gas board can even think of touching a meter:nono:

I can fit these but i am gas safe registered. You wouldn't want it on your conscience if somebody got gassed and died would you ? I would report him to the planning office as the shed thing is illegal too.

if it is being used as a himo then he must have permission to do so, go to the civic centre and complain, if it ebing made into flats then permission and approval must also be sought and to turn a outhouse into a living arragment then saying for tools tells me his isnt going to tell anyone what he is doing till its done and rented out (harder to get them to convert back)

would deffo seek advice from local civic centre about it all

The neighbour on the other side has already spoken to the council many times, untill it's being occupied they won't do a thing. He thinks people are stupid but I can tell from the sounds of what electric tools are being used as to what work is being done and the fact there's also 3 boilers (on the 3 floors) and 3 kitchens is a bit of a give away.

go to the planning department and see if he has permission to change the use of dwelling, once he has it done its hard to change

thats what i ment mate, i was getting across that not only BG can fit them as so do I (being gas safe registered)
