well i know an auto ecu works on a manual car (manual ecu dont work on an auto car), so i dont see why not

For what its worth I had an auto to manual conversion and left my auto JWT chipped ecu in place, didnt even cross my mind. No problems wih it.

On a small note though, every time you do an ECU check it reports a problem with the transmission!

Thought about changing the ECU for a chipped manual one, but don't know what effect that would have because of the slight differences between the auto/manual engines.

+1 Should be fine - I left my auto mines ecu (infact i seem to recall that all chipped ecu's will say automatic when read with conzult for this exact reason) in the car when it was converted.

it works, but it's not the ideal situation

 

A bit of a technical story, but the ECU in the Z uses special maps for higher gear and motorway speeds.

As the automatics only have 4 gears and manuals 5 gears, the settings used by the ECU to determine the gearing is obviously different between AT and MT roms, so if you run a AT rom in a MT car, these special high gear maps won't work properly and I have found it can cause detonation in some cases.

 

There are a few more differences and usually the AT roms are tuned slightly different (milder), but this won't affect running very much.

Also, there seem to be adjusters on the side of the mines ECU - any idea what they do?

The adjusters I think put the ecu into a diagnostic mode? I think the standard ecu has it but maybe that oen you have has the knobs extended? Either that or some people have more than one map on their ecu and its a way of changing between them?

 

I have since been told that Mine's ecus are a bit agressive for UK fuel, although mine never had any bother I will admit and even as an auto it did seem to go well ;). I believe there are lots of different mines ecu maps so luck of the draw really!

AT ECU with MT rom

or a MT ECU (with MT ROM)

the autobox has a seperate ECU... i've got a mines in mine too after conversion, nay probs, just had to adjust the timing, summet to with the neutral switch not telling the ECU it's in neutral...
